I used to steal shitloads of bikes. And I love Biking, too. I feel bad about the stealing now. So, save it.

Yeah I am, but mostly cycle racing on road instead of cycling off-road..so it's not real MTB. Maybe I should reconsider that as I landed on my face the other year and needed some stitches to patch myself up.
If you are new to it be sure to have a helmet and gloves, just in case.

Never done it competatively/seriously, but I go through phases of doing downhilling in woodland. I was actually looking at bikes last week.
Re: wearing helmets. I've seen a mate come off spectacularly, get flung through the air like a rag doll and I heard the sound as his head smashed against a rock. I really thought he could be dead. Luckily he was wearing a helmet and whilst he was dazed (and his helmet was crushed to about 1/8th of its original thickness on the bit that hit) he had no serious injury. No lid and he'd be KO'd and have a bike cut, probably a fractured skull, possibly worse. My dad was concussed when a pillock in a car drove into him, probably would have been okay had he been wearing a helmet. I've had a few 30mph+ offs myself too, so always wear a lid now.

I just bought a Specialized Rockhopper '06. I used to cycle on the road when I was younger, but this will be my first MTB..... have to wait until wednesday to pick it up. Got 20% off the bike an all the paraphernalia, so I'm happy.
I'm going to start riding to work, and off-road on the weekend.
