i love this track...the 303 and the 606, and that drone is
excellent, and i wanted to at least try and replicate it on
my gear...just to see if i could

obviously i can't on my own, as is proof of me asking for
tabs for the drums

as i said, i've almost nailed it but it doesn't quite seem
right....and i haven't even started on the 303 part yet! lol

It's a pretty simple beat really, I put the track on now to
give it a quick "decypher" in my head and I came up with
something close to this:

feel very free to improve on it and post the results!

haha.

forward(ie. from 5 to 3 etc.)

it's a good trick, having it at a barely audible level. it
adds a good hiss to the 606sound methinks

ok, i've just uploaded a new file, with some 303
usage....admittedly it's not the pattern actually from the
track, but hey you gotta have a 303 in there also

:D

303+606

figured out the bassline in ABL:

u = oct up
d = oct down
s = slide
x = SILENCE

-------
1. x
2. G# d s
3. G# s
4. C d s
5. C u s
6. G# u s
7. C d
8. C d
9. C d s
10. C d
11. G# d s
12. A d s
13. A d
14. A d
15. x
16. x
-----------

Tuning knob = max

hope i didnt make any typo's
and it should sound like this in the end: polygon window

the last tone in the original is accented i think

though i figured it out on ABL, not a real tb303. There
might be really tiny little difference? Awell, lets just
stick to our own created basslines

online big from lsg on 2006-01-19 08:44 [#01822160]
Points: 23729 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

no i think a tone should be one seminote higher or something

i've got it going on my 303 and 606 :D

i just need to smack the 303 through some distortion and
reverb and then i'm sorted, but for time being i can't
because i'd need to set my mixer up and i don't have enough
room to do that yet :(

i'll post an mp3 in a bit

ok, it's up....

My polygon window rip-off

although i think RDJ may have done something with his 303,
like messing with the master tune pot and cutoff pot inside
the 303 to give them more range....i might have a bash at
opening my 303 up :-s

fine though, i miss the background noise of course, still
really cool :)

if only i had money to buy a real tb303 :<

can a tb303 actually transpose up a whole octave when
turning the tuning knob? i always wondered that

online big from lsg on 2006-01-19 16:23 [#01822440]

i think they're overrated? because they sound like crap,
like in this polygon window track
all the acid on drukqs isn't done with software for nothing.

i did use fah's notes man, that's why i've just spent the
past hour opening up my 303 and tweaking with the master
tune pot inside the thing, to try and get it sounding more
like RDJ's TB-303 / Fah's ABL (as in pitch)

online big from lsg on 2006-01-19 16:28 [#01822444]
Points: 23729 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

o
what kind of 303 do you have then?

offline Fah from Netherlands, The on 2006-01-19 16:32 [#01822448]
Points: 6428 Status: Regular | Followup to oscillik: #01822442

hah fuck, so it cant transpose up a whole octave?
i think so far it sounds right on tune oscillik, turn down
the env some bit below half and turn up the decay, and it'll
sound the same

big:
yes they are overrated, but it does depend on wether you
like the sound of it or not. I like the 303 sound, will not
use it in every track i make, but i like working with it,
just for fun y'know? I'm not looking for doing complex stuff
with the tb303, i know i cant really do that with
hardware/hardware only. Let's say it's a possesion to me :)

if you have a look at page 88 of the 303 manual it shows you
the range of a "stock" 303....i just fucked with it so it
ain't "stock build" anymore
lol
