recommend me road trip techno!

offline magness from astroblaster (Antarctica) on 2006-01-06 14:10 [#01813354]

I'll be listening to a bunch of new-to-me music on my drive
across the States. Lots of these are new/classics I've never
gotten around to. I'll be on the road for 5 days at the end
of this month.

The list so far:
analog fingerprints
arpanet: wireless internet
ryoji ikeda: dataplex
japanese telecom: virtual geisha
jega: geometry (planet-mu, not matador)
bola: fyuti
arovane: tides
autechre: untilted
venetian snares: huge chrome cylinder box unfolding

Also if anyone has the following on soulseek I'd love to
download/trade (OUT OF PRINT trades only):
bochum welt: module 2
bochum welt: desktop robotics
bochum welt: feelings on a screen
ceephax drive time (!!perfect, right?!)

Looking for any other recommendations along these lines, as
well as early 90s drexciya-style electro.

Please DO NOT recommend:
schematic
cock rock disco
sublight
future sound or anything with cut up vocal samples, which
annoys the shit out of me

Help me broaden my horizons as I drive toward one! thx...

I'm adding it just for its kickass name. Is the rest of the
album any good?

Also I forgot to mention I'd like to start listening to
Hafler Trio and need a recommendation from their massive
discog. I prefer more melodic releases if possible

bothered to think more :p

bit like marmite really..

You've got a good selection there.

Not enough for 5 days.

Get a friend to pick random stuff out a selection of stuff
you like. They can't tell you what it is. It's the best
lucky bag ever. hell, get them to throw something they like
in which you might not know. Could be an eye opener.

Failing that download everything from Bam In Your Cunt
Records.

Excellent car musix:
Underworld
The Other People Place - Lifestyles of the Laptop Café
Kraftwerk
Laurent Garnier - Unreasonable Behaviour
Luke Slater & Ricky Barrow - Alright on Top
Mind Over MIDI - Elektrikal Activity

Should I get:

Legowelt: "Classics 1998-2003"?

Funkstorung: early EPs, remixes, or full length...?

If Anthony Rother sounds like his "Little Computer People"
thing I don't think I would like it. Is it different?

I have Dopplereffekt's Linear Accelerator and it's too
atmospheric; other releases with beats?

DJ Dijital & aux 88 look awesome, anything specific?

claro intelecto: i'm going to get Neurofibro unless there is
something better

Juan Atkins is great but I need specific recommendations for
instrumental tracks only :)

Anyone willing to chime in specific albums/12s by these
artists?

Thx for the suggestions!

yeah, I've also got a few audiobooks (chuck palahniuk's
lullaby, a stephen hawking novel he reads in that robot
voice, virtual light, some bbc stuff) that should get me
through the rest when my mind is numb with music.

this *is* sort of my lucky grab bag, i'm not going to listen
to your guys' picks (or mine) until i'm actually on the
road.

and I couldn't find bam in your cunt records, are you taking
the piss??

I meant to press lazy link.

There's some stupid stuff but also some quite good
stuff.
Started off as a joke :)

Audio Books: Yes! I'll have to get that Lullaby one for
myself. Good stuff.

I will check out the Laurent Garnier and the Mind over MIDI
especially, which looks great! Not sure about 'Alright on
Top' as it seems to have lots of singing.

I've got lifestyles of the laptop cafe but good suggestion!
Thx!

Check out some of Jan Jelinek's other stuff too, especially
Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records and that album with Triosk.
They're probably good albums for driving at night, if you're
planning on doing that.

I'd say: get your hands on as much as possible, theyre all
growers! But, Anthony has a lot of stuff that's way better
than Little computer people and Dopplereffekt has lots of
good tracks with beats; check out Gesamstkunstwerk.

thx for all the recommendations people. i had so much music
for my drive i didn't listen to 1/2 of it, but what i did
hear was great!

...i don't know why everyone raves about untilted though; it
was probably my least favorite. whats the deal

ah wow seems i'm not the only one then. I don't get untilted
either. It annoys the crap out of me, 90% of the album at
least.

how was your trip?

the trip was good.

california: beautiful as always it is my home state
arizona: really beautiful too, been there before, nice color
palette
new mexico: stunningly beautiful, the nicest landscapes in
the southwest
texas: too long, boring as shit, just flat brown NOTHING and
telephone poles; starts to get interesting in the eastern
bit.
east tennessee: getting into really beautiful country, lush
trees, mountains heading into north carolina. unbelievably
beautiful. a few pics on my website in a couple of days...
