Any tips on how to make it sound less "fruity"?
The fx aspect is really beyond me at the moment.
I appreciate the feedback, truly.

Sounds like a demo to me.
Too much "on/off" to my taste.

Swift_Jams Top Ten Tips:
1.) Turn knobs on VST panels when you press the record button while your patterns are playing.
2.) In the piano roll, try changing the cut-off/res/and velocity settings for each individual note.
3.) Work in tempos like 300+ to get in those wicked fast snare rushes.
4.) Explore the effects lines. (Knobs can be recorded on them too!)
5.) Explore the VST sounds. In the browser go to> Plug-in presets> Generators> Then select instruments from the VST available. You can tweak the presets to make cool sounds.
6.) The beat slicer is great. Right click in the channel box and select "Insert channel" > Fruity Slicer. From there, open your own .wav/.mp3 samples and butcher your own crazy beats with timestretch/pitch adjustment settings. (Which can be altered for different sounds.)
7.) Very simple idea here: MIDI DEVICES ROCK!
8.) Try mastering the sounds by adding stereo effects such as panning for each instrument/pattern/or even note! It's crazy!
9.) Samples are great. Google search "Breakbeat Paradise" There are some excellent beat/string/synth/bass/etc. samples there. I've downloaded the entire site. (HUGE, not recommended.)
10.) Practice. Keep working at it, you will get great I'm sure. I can't wait to hear some of the stuff you are capable of making.
Good luck!

It's better than anything I've ever created. That's not saying a lot actually. Sorry.
It's a nice first track though, nothing groundbreaking but you woudln't expect that with the first track. Keep going though, there were some nice ideas in there :)

I'm downloading your file right now, and havent yet listened to it, but still, i know something about how to make a track sound less "fruity". I use fruityloops, and i think it really rocks. But the thing is, most of the samples and vst´s that come along with it are crap, and are the things that give it that bad fruity "feel". Swift makes some great points in his post, listen to him. Heres some thoughts from me:
1: Try to never ever use anything default. Always download special samples, tweak them.or do as i do, create (synthesize) your own! Get cooledit pro, record youreslf or some other fucked up shit. and tweak tweak untill you have a lot of cool sounds. (put them all in a folder that you then automatically load in flp) With some practice you can make your own Kicks, snares, claps, hi´s and shit. A good trick is to play a sound really really low (pitch) and try to imitate that sound with some kind of synthezis, and then play the sound you made in high pitch again. It really helps you understand what a clap for example is made up off. This will truly help your music sound personal, as nobody else in the world will have these sounds. Making electronic music, or any music really, is all about the SOUNDS you use.
2: VST´s. The only vst´s i ever use in fruity, are some of the effects. The reverb is sort of ok for me, and the compressor and limiter is fine (you should use these a lot by the way, it really helps a track sounding more professional)
For synths, never ever use any of those already in fruity. They suck. Two of my favourite (Free!) vst synths:
Crystal Superwave 8 (sounds like trance sounds only to begin with, but its really versatile)
Get those, and check out this site, download all the vsts, and find out what you like. Theres a lot of great free stuff out there.
http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/~thman/VST/vst-allinstr.htm
Hope you can use it!!! ill try and get back, as soon as i've listened to the track.

not bad
to make it sound less fruityish i recommend you don't use any of the fruity vsts, and if you do, make sure it is properly changed from the preset
