I'm furious at myself for letting this happen.

I know, it's just... this city is so generally unhip and
unwealthy, I usually don't have to worry about stuff like
this happening, I've never failed to get a launch system at
my leisure. And I didn't see a goddamn sign of any hype or
buzz whatsoever despite massive gameshopping in the day(s)
leading up to the launch. I thought I was OK.

i'll just paste what i wrote in sagames:

I had my first go at a demo booth today. I was quite
impressed with how well Call of Duty 2 played, even though
the fixed position the controller was in made it kind of
hard to navigate when the going got tough. Aliasing was a
bit nasty at times, but the smoke effects blew me away.

Kameo played and looked like boring crap :(

King Kong's graphics were brilliant and when the T-Rex
roared at me, the effects made it seem like it was
really pissed off about something. Probably me not
being in its mouth, I guess. I didn't really get very far
since it kinda ate me a lot.

Anyway, I'm pretty damn impressed after initially being sort
of lukewarm to the graphics of the launch games. I'll
probably go with CoD2 for launch, since the gameplay felt so
tight and the AI played pretty well. Hopefully there will
come up some more interesting games before Gears of War
launches.

I've been a PS-er from day one. That's mainly because PSOne
has had excellent games from the start, although too many of
them never landed in Europe, or even the U.S. It was a
natural continuation of 16-bit Nintendo quality control
combined with Sega-style speed and action.

PS2 hasn't been anywhere as wonderful: too many sequels, too
many goddamn sequels, too many fucking sequels (MGS, GT,
GTA, NHL, NFL, THawk etc). Still, at least these sequels
were, on the whole, pretty well done. And there's still
Final Fantasy XII on the horizon.

X-Box, from the start, seemed in my eyes like a really
worthless device.

Gates-bashing aside, the games simply didn't convince me. I
agree with kaen in the sense that they're only flashing the
Halo-guard over and over again. It was an alright enough
game, but unless you in addition really dig stuff like NFL,
it really had nothing but poor imitations of the best games
of each genre available - whether in racing, RPGs, action,
platforming etc. Plus: I didn't need an X-Box to play Halo
through - I did that on my computer. The same now goes for
CoD2, Quake IV etc.

(The only raison d'etre for the machine would be its hard
drive, which I know people have used as an emulator
platform, a music and film catalogue etc. That's putting the
Box in some reasonable use. Plus Dead or Alive had bouncing
titties.)

The 360 now? Well, it's the tired old Halo, CoD2 business
all over again. Looking at the selection, I'd say Perfect
Dark: Zero Hour looks the most promising (I don't care for
sports games). But unless they really drop the BS and start
developing some killer games, I'm gonna go on ignoring the
hype.

I don't know whether X-Box has chances of topping PS as
"the" platform of this decade... I don't really care. It's
games that count. That's why I'll put N64, PSOne, Dreamcast
and GameCube over a dozen X-Boxes, 360, 720 and beyond.

Totally disagree, the Xbox owned, Microsoft earned second
place because their library of games was superior to
Nintendo's (the ''Halo is the only good Xbox game'' myth is,
well, a myth) and the 360 looks to gain even more ground.
That's all well and good that you played Halo on PC, but
some people didn't invest in gaming PCs and the Xbox
recieved most PC games worth playing. It was very useful to
many people in that sense. My CPU isn't good enough to run
Thief 2 but I can count on one hand the number of PC games I
wanted to play but missed out on, since I got most of them
for Xbox. Likewise, some people are not willing to spend all
that cash on a new gaming PC they'll have to upgrade soon...
you can get an Xbox 360 for a fraction of the cost and play
CoD2 and future FPS' on the big screen and Xbox Live, no
muss, no fuss. And the 360 will again get most PC games
worth playing. People who don't want to spend money to keep
their PC up to date but have all three consoles aren't
missing much, mostly because of the XBox and the 360.

Also, any console game that was multi-platform was always
far better on Xbox than the other two. Nobody should have to
settle for the Gamecube version of Splinter Cell or the PS2
version of Max Payne, they're weaksauce. Only the Xbox did
the PC versions justice. And I can't see how you can diss
the Xbox's racing lineup, it's by far the best of any
platform. Project Gotham Racing + Forza + Rallisport
Challenge= trifecta of ownage. And it had plenty of
exlusives worth buying the system for. Aside from those
racing games, there's Ninja Gaiden, Jet Set Ret Radio
Future, Jade Empire, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Otogi, Shenmue 2,
Full Spectrum Warrior... Ninja Gaiden alone is worth
billions of dollars.

The 360 launch is just kind of OK, but still one of the
better launches in recent memory. Just about every game is
worth playing.

I'm a PC gamer, but if I would have to choose a console,
which would be based on the games I'd want to play, I'd
probably go for xbox 360 too.

I dunno, it depends on what games you're into. I certainly
couldn't have done without Ninja Gaiden and Panzer Dragoon
Orta. The Xbox 360 will undoubtedly have tons of great
exclusives too. If you like these exclusives, you might as
well get one. If not, you don't need it.

I think I'm waiting until all 3 are out. I'm getting the
Revolution first just because you can play a whole back
catalog of Nintendo games. That's going to be insane. I love
the new controller as well.

The conrollers we have now feel old, they were designed to
play 2 dimensional games. The New control scheem looks to be
perfect for controlling something in 3 dimensions.

I see PS3 and Xbox 2 having a very similar game selection. I
actually think Nintendo will have a lot of exclusive games
for their console. Time will tell. It'll be fun. Now I have
to play some Mario Kart DS online.
