Well, I donated; 500.00 NOK = 616.757 SEK = 75.6180 USD

Yeah, but since I don't have a visa and I've lost my
"nettbank-login" I can't tranfer it online, so I sent him
the money by mail. Hopefully it will arrive safely one of
the next days!

you really think that?!? I can think of a few more who
stopped donating because of Nacmat's reason. I totally agree
with him, whether it is about a 'lack of knowledge' or not,
what the hell! I thought we would see an interesting site
after all, but now we even have banners. And still a
messageboard with loads of crap on it (and lousy
moderation). The disco is nice, the threads with some decent
music discussions are good, but that's it. there are plenty
of alternatives who are free, and without a lot of shit chat
on it.

ok, i've rambled on way too long again...... funny like that

There should either be a donate button and NO adverts or NO
donate button and adverts. I didn't know this place was a
profit making organisation. Everytime someone questions
Phobz all he seems to do is spit out the dummy and threaten
to close the site. It would be a shame if he did but i for
one could live without it.

spend money to make money- economically sound fact.

Perhaps nacmat has subconsiously stumbled on a point. A more
expensive XLT will mean greater profits.

I understand what you feel about the lack of really
noticeable new features on the site, but as someone said it
already, I think that even when the site is here, you'll
spend 95% of time on the messageboard and simply 5% on the
other site features.
I don't think that Phobia is cheating us and makes money
with this site, and now I just want become a premium member
to be greateful for the past two years of fun I had on the
board and the other years I'm sure I'll enjoy on the board
til now.

The ability to have "shit chat" is overall what keeps the
regulars coming back. Face it.. there are not enough solid
releases to keep continual music threads occuring. We enjoy
chatting with people that have similar tastes.

The basic fact that members are allowed to have such
freedoms and that moderators encourage it makes members
overall feel more comfortable.

When you feel comfortable you feel more apt to come back
more often. That alone helps to pay for the site. Non
regulars tend to not donate. Those guys in bold red on the
user list are the guys that both donate and have the status
"addict".

I think you see where i am going with this

We just have to talk not only electronica releases ! There
are so much excellent non-electronica music in this world,
so many styles. It is true that I don't really enjoy the
non-music related threads...

If people don't think the forum is worth $10, then you are
silly.

I love this place and would be sad to see it go, I think
most people around feel that way too.

I have already donated my $10, but i will chuck $5 more in
the pot in December.

i tried donating a bit ago, but paypal fuxed me and used a
bank account i recently closed instead of my live account.
and of course phobz didn't get my 10$ which wasn't in the
bank account because it didn't exist.

but, i'm gonna donate. seriously. it's definitely worth the
monthly $0.833333333333333333--->

It is free, but surely web hosting cost something?

Also coding a website and putting it online takes a lot of
time, time that could be spent more productively if it isn't
appreciated.

yes... my only point is:
after three years and lots of donations... where is the
site?

But it isn't like he owes you anything.

I personally am happy with it being a messageboard. I cannot
see myself paying too much attention to the rest of the site
when it is finished.

The board is the reason I donate, not for anything else.

offline nacmat on 2005-11-14 17:22 [#01778060]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker | Followup to bob: #01778044

totally agree

he doesnt owe me aything

if 3 years ago he had said: "this place will only be a
messageboard for the next 3 years, anyway donations are
welcome" that would have been ok

but he promissed a site that would be up and functioning by
august 2002.

I think this is his place... he doesnt owe us anything...
but he lots of times asked for money to keep this alive and
feeding the hope of a near future excellent website

too much time has passed already

(this same thing goes for watmm, I am really dissapointed
with both places)

offline bob from Nottingham (United Kingdom) on 2005-11-14 17:30 [#01778072]
Points: 4669 Status: Lurker | Followup to nacmat: #01778060

I like you dude, but i don't agree with your opinion on this
one iota.

People have lives to get on with, people have daily jobs,
etc. But if the place isn't really making much money, which
even with those annoying adverts i don't think it is, the
money to pay for it has to come from somewhere.
If I had a website that was used by hundreds of people, if
it wasn't making money I wouldn't think twice about asking
people to chip in to keep it running.

I understand if people can't afford it, but if they can then
I don't see why they shouldn't donate to keep a place alive.

$10 per year per member is fuck all really, considering how
much people on the board spend on music per year. I used to
spend around £5000 per year on music, $10 is a drop in the
ocean.
