yes, I used to donate too... I sometimes had no money and
other times I had plenty, now I could... but I want to see
the site done first

anyway, I respect your view, also respect all people
donating, as it is a volunteer option

also I like this place, and many times I thanked phobia for
the hard work... now I just need something to see with my
eyes

I just think this place was said to be free, and now I
got
the impression that phobia is making money out of it

nacmat: you're obviously not getting it... this place IS
free... and how can you actually believe i'm making money
out of this place? are you jealous because i have received
enough donations to cover the server expenses for
august-november? what about the thousands of bucks i've
spent on the site before that?

i have friends that keep saying i'm a fool that doesn't take
the oppurtunity to make big bucks considering there are
60-70 thousands of visitors month after month...

it's kinda silly to discuss this anyway.. because you are
not getting it. try to take a step back and get the whole
picture. just try it.

I have stepped back and seen the whole picture. You are
right. No criticism is allowed. Pay your money and shut up,
nacmat.

no, I am not jealous, I earn a good money as an architect.

also I know you are honest. its just that 3 years sounds
like enough time imo to have a proper site up.

this is not an anti-phobia attitude, I may have talked too
much in this thread... my opinion has been made clear. I
just wish to see xltronic in its full splendor very soon,
then I will happily help AGAIN

it's kinda silly to discuss this anyway..

maybe you should try to look at it from his perspective
phobia... I'm sure Nacmat does not want to do any harm, but
his point of view is fair enough after three years. Can't
you really see why he's thinking like this?

I'm also disappointed after all the promises, I'm really
sorry to say that. I (and lots of people) don't visit this
place to chat with the regulars about nothing, but just for
a music related website, to discover great music. (However,
the discography was a great start.)

I understand time is limited, but you can't rectify three
years of waiting to your visitors. At least, in my opinion.

It's great to see a lot of members are willing to pay for
xltronic, but you can at least respect the others who would
like to see a full functional website about electronic
music, instead of a messageboard with lots of crap on it.

Apparently some people want to donate to help building a
cool website. Others want to pay to be able to chat with
each other... That's fine, isn't it?

You've got a point there, like I understand nacmat in a way
as well.

But for me this has nothing to do with the financial support
to keep the mb up and running.

Phobiazero put a lot of money, time and effort over the
years to keep this site up and running so a little bit of
money is a gesture of friendliness towards him to keep
xltronic alive. (it's only $10 a year)

totally agree... its a friendly gesture.
its just that over the years I got tired of promises about
the "upcoming soon" site, so I dont feel like having that
friendly gesture anymore (by the moment)

well, nobody is as frustrated as I am about not having the
"proper" site online. that's why we're working on xltronic
v2. but both tunemx and I have families, houses and are
working full-time. i'm also running a few other websites,
which have been finished since xltronic was launched.

i'm also heavily dependant on tunemx's presence while
building the website, and he has no internet at home.......
he's still waiting for his broadband to get delivered.

nacmat, what have you accomplished yourself during these
three years? perhaps you should value what you've received
from xltronic..... messageboard, exclusive radioshows and
news, the discography.... would the case have been different
if we just had a proper navigation on top? or what exactly
are you missing?

however, the donations are welcome, I won't tell anyone to
NOT donate because we're missing some pages. the monthly
hosting fee are still reoccuring whether xlt v2 is here or
not.

I can understand banning people if they are racist, bigoted
or offensive, but all i am doing is taking a slightly
different point of view. Should I be banned for having a
point of view that disagrees with yours? I am sure it does
cost money to host the site. I host a site. Costs me about
£50 a year. Might not be as big or as fancy as yours but
costs a hell of a lot less than £1200 a year. £1200 a
year! That's a hell of a lot of money to pay to host a
web-site. I would try and shop around and get a cheaper deal
if I were you.

Bill: Yet again your response is based on lack of knowledge.
You have no idea about the requirements of the server and
what is needed to host 2 million db entries and all the
media-files..... We would have to cut off a lot of features
and information if we'd go for an "ordinary" shared
webshosting package.... (Yes, watmm is doing that as we
speak, but that is not really what Joyrex wants, he had
financial and technical problems with his dedicated server,
so he's forced to switch to shared webhosting.)

$149 per month for our new setup is really cheap and a great
deal for the enhanced performance.

I don't think he meant anything bad by saying "enhanced
performance?" (well maybe he did but lets give him the
benefit of the doubt)

it's just that, being the developer, there are probably lots
of things blatantly noticed by you that sometimes get missed
by the users.... This site, for example, has run at
seemingly the exact same speed for me for the last couple of
years, though I'm sure you've been doing plenty to
streamline and advance the webpage.

maybe you noticed the site went down every time someone
performed a search on the old server.....

also, xlt v2 (the main reason why we upgraded the server),
is much more cpu and memory demanding..... we also
appreciate the extra storage space (80 Gb) on the new server
which allows us to offer each premium member (at least) 50
Mb of mp3 storage.

hmm.. nope I didn't notice that, but thats exactly the kind
of thing I'm talking about... I mean, I may have noticed the
site crash, but I wouldn't be able to make the connection
that it was because someone used the old search function. So
to me the problem went unnoticed but to you it was probably
quite a headdache. I just meant to say that even if things
don't appear different, I know that you are
constantly making XLT better. :)

zephyr twin has a good point. It may be 'advanced'
for phobia, it's not really advanced to me. For me it's just
a messageboard with a non-complete discography. I remember
phobia upgrading the server months ago. I didn't notice a
thing! It's still the same to me...

even keeping a simple forum running is a lot of
work..

you say so chaosmachine.... i think you're not doing a good
job if it costs you lots of work to run a simple forum.

I don't think it's about the donations at all, it's about
promises where these donations were based on for some of us.
Why do we care if you look at it differently? It's just like
that. Well, people are free to donate, there you go. Let's
leave it there.

I don't think so, look the "discography updates" thread and
try to notice how the mods/admins are working hard on it -
Also it has lots of excellent scans and MANY releases.
