The Icarus Project has been (un)officially released today! :)

this is three months in the making now.. so, if you have a
psp, grab it and give it a try, i think you'll like it!

the icarus project will work with firmware 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0
(via the eboot loader with luaplayer support).

if you have any questions on getting it working, just ask.

Congratulations on completing it.

I don't have a PSP or even plan on getting one but
congratulations anyway.

I'm sure Ceri will check this out as soon as he knows :)

Whoa, this sounds cool. Are you like, a 'professional'
developer with a team and everything? I havn't followed the
psp at all and don't even know what it is exactly. Is this a
fairly simply gameboy-esque game or a more complex one?

i am a one man team. i did the programming, music, artwork,
design, documentation.. everything a 'professional' studio
would do.

my goal was to make a game as close to 'commercial release
quality' as possible, and i think i've done it.. no 30
person team, no million dollar budget.. just a guy, a
laptop, and a dream.. ;)

Hmm.. isn't the psp a very popular system (a playstation
handheld or something)? I don't know what it is but does it
use carts or cds? I thought you needed some sort of
permission/access to make a game compatible with a system
like that. Anyway, this is cool. I want to program someday.
I'm just barely starting python because c++ is a huge pain
for a beginner at least.

the psp is like a gameboy advance on crack.. 4.3 inch
widescreen display, full color, very nice controls (even an
analog stick).. it uses UMDs (think minidisc) for games and
movies.. games are close to ps2 quality (and getting
better), and movies are dvd quality.

you can also load games stored on a memory stick, due to
some security holes that sony left in early versions of the
psp firmware. and that's where i come into the picture..

Ah, sort of like the dreamcast. I don't even have a psp now
and suck with technical things. If I ever get a psp in the
future which one of these 3 files should I download to make
this game work (and is it easy to make it work?)

depending on the version of psp you get, you need different
files.. if you ever get one, just bump this thread and i'll
help you out.

PSP graphics aren't very close to PS2 quality in my opinion.
Most of the ones who try to match up (graphically) with
current-gen consoles just fail miserably with
framerate/textures/graphical glitches/WHATEVRR. Oh, with the
exception of the new GTA game. That one actually looks the
part.

here's a windows version.. it's running in an emulator, so
you'll need a fast computer (check the readme for more
details). the psp version is much nicer, but this will at
least give you a general idea of the game (maybe).

Ceri's PSP is now at version 2.0, as it was neccessary to
uprgade in order to play GTA:Liberty City Stories (which is
bitchin' BTW), so he will need to once more looking into the
shady realms of making the damned thing run homebrew (I want
my emulators back as well).

you need the 2.0 eboot loader.. you can download it
here.

follow the readme, it's pretty simple. if you need any help,
there is a help thread here.

once you have the eboot loader installed, download the
2.0/luaplayer version of my game, and copy the folder called
"The Icarus Project" into

\PSP\GAME\USER_LUA\Applications\

the end result being

\PSP\GAME\USER_LUA\Applications\The Icarus Project\

let me know if you have any questions.
