Va-va-voom, this is more like high art than video game. I
just got it tonight, haven't really done anything yet but I
don't really need to do anything to know this game is
speshul. Anyone play it? Is my first spine tingling
impression right?

Best music I've heard all day and I've been listening to
good music all day.

It's a sequel to ICO, which was another incredible work of
art but ''didn't do well'' because it wasn't an FPS where
you shoot the same guys eight million times over a 10 hour
period. I think this might be even better than ICO, seems
like a game that's going to eventually choke me up.

they take place in the same strange japanese fairy tale
world.

a very subtle and melancholic world i'd like to dream in
some day.

I didn't read anything on the story but the game definitely
has ties to ICO, I noticed that within 5 minutes. Don't want
to spoil anything but they HAVE to be linked.

isn't it supposed to be a bit on the short side?

I have no idea, I don't own a PS2 so this one is passing me
by, but I always loved the previews I saw. looked like a
real step forward in gaming to me.

i personally prefer the game's first two titles, NICO and
Wanda and the Colossus (Wander and the Colossus in japan).

Back when my brother still got game informer they had an
article about this new one and mentioned ICO. How it didnt
do all that well and then compaired Japanese cover art and
american cover art and it had something to do with the
sales.
I think it went into that the sequel might not be release
here.

Glad to see it is. I am going to have to fly over to IGN

long but it's one of my favourite games, up there with the
metal gear solid series.

Sorta. ICO was ''short'' by video game standards, but video
game standards stretch games too thin these days. ICO was a
perfect length for it was trying to do.

from what I've read/heard in reviews the story is vague at
best - which isn't very surprising, sad thing is we're used
to story and plot in games to be vapid.

I've recently been playing "Planescape: Torment" and that
game is just amazing. it's ALL about the story there. the
writing is incredibly good (and there is such a lot of it
too).

Ico is one of my favourite games of all time. I'm so looking
forward to this ever since the first promo picture about 2
years ago when it was still called Nico.

I have never seen so much emotion in a game before that
doesn't use words. The perfect interaction between the main
character and Yorda was constantly tear jerking in its
excellence.

"in reviews the story is vague at best" - You see this
actually excites me. I love it when you're not lead letter
by letter by forcing the story down your throat.

I can't wait for this to hit PAL shores....

Ok yo I finally beat this game. I had to take a breather
because I couldn't beat the final colossus, a tough nut to
crack but eventually I went back to my roots and figured him
out.

Now then. The game is beyond awesome but it's not perfect.
Biggest flaw is the template of the adventure itself. The
game has no towns/powerups/sidequests, which is fine. I
didn't miss them. Just riding through the countryside to
each colossus is stimulating. Right off the bat you ride
over to a mountain and have to monkey your way up it, old
school platformer style. You finally get to the top and you
find this building-sized colossus, a nice reward for your
perilous climb. The scale to the top really makes it feel
like you're in a forbidden area, too.

But it's kind of misleading, because later on, those
perilous mini-adventures into the unknown are too few and
far between. Too many times, you just need to go from point
A to point B on your horse. Makes for some very beautiful
travel and you see some stunning settings... but I find the
most immersive colossus-hunts are the more involved ones.
Getting off your horse, platforming around and figuring out
how to bypass natural obstacles (and some that AREN'T so
natural). There's really not enough of this. I know the game
isn't centered around that kind of extracurricular
activity... the battles are the focus... but I think they
could have balanced it a bit more. The trickier colossus
hunts are so much more effective at establishing the sense
of remoteness that they seem to want to present. Going
places you shouldn't be to do things you shouldn't do. It's
just too easy sometimes.

I also hate how you can survive falling off the heads of
creatures that size. The last guy is as big as a skyscraper
but you can survive him shaking you off onto the ground a
thousand feet below. Having ''instant death'' just seconds
away at any time would make these guys seem even MORE awe
inspiring.

Whatever, 10/10 A+ must-play-or-you're-gay.

still haven't finished Ico yet... (i'm stuck but i don't
want to look at the solution on the internet yet either)

the screenshots of Shadow of the Colossus look great.

i'm just a bit worried by the fact that the main focus seems
to be beating colossuses (i usually don't like bosses, and
even kind of recently i gave up on Metroid Prime 2 at the
end bosses because they were too long and too hard - i've
always prefered levels and towns to bosses)... but reading
Ophecks' description, it seems tempting.

BUMP
finally got this game : D
it is an amazing game. first the screenshots blew me away,
but they are nothing compared to riding around the
absolutely massive landscape with all the scenery and
actually fighting the colossus. the colossus are amazing as
well, the way they were made is incredible, climbable,
killable, looking awesome and absolutely massive.
im up to the fourth colossus. not quite knowing what to do
but its still awesome. gotta thank this xlt for introducing
me to such a great game (even with its minor flaws)

Cool. More must play. Uzim, it's not really like a series of
boss fights, don't think of it like that. I can't remember
if I explained it like that, but naw, it feels different.
It's like a series of awesome... encounters. ''Boss fights''
doesn't do it justice.

I want to play another game like this so fucking bad. When
I reflect on it it's like a slideshow of beautiful
paintings. So much moving imagery.
