BOC vs. Aphex

OK.....I had to do this topic....
I hope I am not mis-representing myself out here on v5....

ALL of you guys know that BOC is my first love....But....
I would NEVER put Richard and BoC even on the same level. I
have MUCH love for Aphex Twin and ALL his work.....I just
CANNOT see any comparison between the two...

Anyone???

BOC will always be my first love...
(criticism- the fate I accept fully out here on v5)....

Sounds about right...

That is very silly, BOC are great and I love the new album
but BOC are no way as good as the god, Aphex Twin.

We all have our own opinions.

Yup, there's no point in comparing them. Or any music for
that matter. It's just art nothing more. Maybe if it were a
new wonder drug or something:

afx killed 85% of cancerous cells while BoC only billed 73%.
Next time you have cancer try AFX. mmmm....Tastes
mediciney.

so what the .. ? BoC and Aphex are good artists, what the
heck ? i don't find one of them better than the other, they
make music, good music, so i like both as well..
RDJ has no limits, and BoC has trick in her music, music is
the weapon, to explain things that you can't explain with
words....

also my english sucks, better i turn knobs..

hurray raimons - did you know that warp hired a team of
computer nerds to spam IDM messageboards with worshipful
praise of boc. i know 2 people who have been paid £1200
each to spend 2 months spamming mbs, its sooooo sad - but
its worked brilliantly for them

bagvali...that really wouldn't suprise me...

It would explain why everywhere is full of BoC bollocks...

jand - its totally true, and why not i suppose- its very
effective marketing, and goes direct to the IDM consumers

Well I was not paid anything...(that idea is crazy).....

I just love BOC....And I also love RDJ....
Map made it simple, I like his explination:

"RDJ has no limits, and BoC has trick in her music, music is

the weapon, to explain things that you can't explain with
words...."

Well put....
This was all just a matter of my opinion...
I expected backlash....
Cheers everyone....

why is the idea of paying someone to plug/promote and album
so weird? why do you think television has adverts every few
minutes? people want to sell their stuff dont they

the IDEA itself is not wierd at all...in fact it is VERY
prevolent within the record industry....

I just thought it was crazy that someone was accusing the
fans on this MB of being paid.....

I really hate replying to this and bringing it back up the
topics list as I have already made very clear what i think
of this BoC onslaught on the mb..but this is just too damn
irritating a question..somebody else brought up JMJ
comparison which I think is a good one here's another
comparing BoC and Aphex is like comparing Kenny G with
Charlie Parker..both use horns (here laptops etc)..both work
in roughly the same idiom Jazz(here IDM) but when it come
right down to it..Charlie Parker revolutionized Jazz..gave
it a much needed edge which it was loosing with umpteenth
number of soft lounge acts...while Kenny G took a few hints
from Jazz and melded it all into a putrid sickly sweet
elevator/supermarket muzak that mindless sheep can
mindlessly trundle their shopping trolleys to...

to me, geogaddi sounds like the perfect mix of various warp
artists. i hear autechre, aphex twin, plaid and even mira
calix. and that's ok. i appreciate the album more than i did
drukqs, although that album will probably be better in the
long run. not to mention confield.

You sure are going to great lengths to convince us about
this BOC spam conpiracy thing!
You have mentioned it on at least four different threads!
Even if it is true, it didn't make me buy it.
They should have spent the money on a free album for all of
us...

I think Boc is much better at the ambient, naustalgic music,
while Aphex is better at the... the... well, just
everything.

So yeah, Aphex is better than Boc, but I still love em.

Kenny G got where he did because a lot of women in the early
90's wanted his hair :p

Alright, look, this topic seems to be divided right down the
middle; are BoC really any good?? Sometimes when I listen
to their stuff, I really enjoy it, but usually get a bit
bored or find my attention drifting off to something else.
The only track that I REALLY love- as much as I love just
about every Aphex track- is Orange Romeda from the Wap100
compilation.

Yes!!! Orange Romeda is the shit.

I guess whether you like boc or not kind of depends on if
your the kind of person who likes being in mellow, nastalgic
moods alot or not. Just a thought.

Aphex Twin covers more styles, and is totally excellent at
what he does, drum'n bass, and general craziness, but
personally I feel BoC have a better sense of melody... their
melodies are excellent, so are Aphex Twins, but BoC more so
for me... there is not point in comparing them though, cause
they are each excellent, and I love them both... right now
though I'm liking BoC better...

Yes, boc are masters of the melodies for sure, and soothing
melodies at that... Olson comes to mind for me, so so
soothing

BoC's melodies are predictable and pedestrian..RDJ's on the
other hand tap into the subconsious and makes you think
"damn I am sure i've heard that beofre" while you actually
haven't...

Boc are more trippy with their use of found sounds, afx just
knows how to write music which develops into logical sense.

logical sense??? i'm not sure you heard all of his music
swimmy...
and i, too, think that boc are just a little too repetitive
(beats and style, samples, ...) and geogaddi impressed me
way much less than mhtrtc, just because it his the same
music (darker and more develloped), when i heard mhtrtc i
had never heard music like that before, and geogaddi has 7
great songs for me

Aphex, by far. BOC is amazing, but I like listening to
eclectic artists, and BOc is just so STATIC. Drukqs is just
so convoluted, it's too good to be true.

Since Geogaddi came out Ive listened to it all day at work
every single day, on repeat. I put in MHTRTC today to see
how it struck me after hearing Geogaddi so much and I must
say I think Geogaddi is better, which suprised me because
before I had a chance to hear it again I remeber it as
sounding far more lush than it is. (end off topic ramble)

it's a ridiculous topic. like comparing chalk with cheese.
these are two artists who do different things well.
it's not a competition.
