and the baby is mine :)
just the first impressions :
heavy as fuck. 26 kilos and thats with composite plastic finishes. imagine whats inside. well, hammer-action keys. i really feel like sitting in front of the piano. the keys are going up and down perfectly :)
20 knobs, 9 sliders, multiple of buttons, havent really checked them yet though.i turned this on and launched reason ( 2.5 ). and jesus holy christ - its like completely new dimension of composing ! with full spectrum of 88 keys, you can do EVERYTHING.i couldnt imagine getting small controller with, lets say 25 keys, no ( although i know that for non-pianists its maybe better as they are not used to that ).
despite the reviews about "specific" way of acting of that baby - well,no complains. everything seems perfect.
AC power goes through USB, the same USB that sends data in. already at the start i launched latency at level of 50ms - unreachable difference for human ear and really, when i hit the key, i hear the sound ( and i checked that on headphones - no delays, sequencer trials - no delays.multiple melodic layers with various effects - no delays ). so basically latency problems does not exist. at least not in this case, and the case is SB Audigy NX External- also connected by USB. i would say that putting the same card into pc ( non-usb but direct connection) would allow me to set the latency even maybe to levelof 10ms,but comeon.if it will come to this i will invest my monies in really expensive proffesional sound card.
hmm. its very very big and very very posh. maybe i will write down what i discovered about the knobs later on.
anyway - im completely satisfied. thanks for all efforts - heh, ive been told to put this model at the end of my list, but now i know it completely suits my needs.
happy days.

nice. bought a korg microkontrol the other day - wish the keys were bloody bigger, though. only gripe with it really (but it's a big one - sigh).
it's a rad midi controller - that's for sure. rules in reason.

i dont, dude. x-session has synth keys which means, they are shit. plus the fact that number of knobs and sliders is lessimportantas you havemost of them in your software anyway, dude.

50 ms latency is quite large actually, I've managed to get mine down to around 3ms in Reason (Edirol FA66) and you can really tell the difference. The latency is more to do with the cards drivers rather than the connection - USB/Firewire or PCI shouldn't make much of a difference. With my old card the M-audio Delta 66, I could never get beneath 12ms..
What drivers are u using? ASIO?

thats the point. i cant find any ASIO driver sfor that stupid card. so for now im using MME ones. ive checked drivers on Creative website, and downloaded some ASIO update, but after installing there was no sound and AudIgy was throwed out from system devices - dunno why. and then i had to reinstall whole soundcard, so i sticked up to MME and 50ms. as for now it suits me, tho im still searching for some good ASIo drivers ( well if card producer hasnt got them, hEll knows where i will find them ).

Ah, damn Creative and all they stand for.. Hmm u wouldn't have to spend much on a new sound card to get ASIO 2.0 drivers.. The Edirol UA-25 (£150-ish) would do the job nicely, even The UA20..
But u've got urself a decent keyboard there so if ur happy, cool..

well, my card simply doesnt support ASIO yet, as its USB connected ( thats the one in fancy box outside the pc ) and therefore - software based. in this case, windows / producer drivers are best to stick with.
they will do ASIO 2.0 at some stage i guess. but really, im not into stage/live playin. already had seted up the software to run as i wanted it to run, im kinda like "slower progress - more possibilities":) thus im just recording phrases/melodc parts/various stuff, just to edit them later on. and in this case, latency of 50ms is enough.
and even when i loaded piano into my module, there wasno delays :) i checked oin few classics, played them few times - no problem :)
so yeah, shame, but what can you do.

sure man. i bought hammer 88 keys just because im a pianist and i like to play on piano sometimes, and with that i have MIDI + piano in one thing. its just about what you need.
plus that novation x-station ( if we talk about that one ) seems to be one of the best anyway :)
(ps. synth keys are basically keys like in synthesizer. which means, normal, for majority of models ).
