XLT VIBES #16 | Re-birth Re-born

offline Ceri JC from Jefferson City (United States) on 2005-09-02 04:00 [#01712987]
Points: 23533 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

Re-birth has been discontinued, however, it's far from dead
and is now available for free DL. With this in mind, the
latest XLT Vibes compilation will feature tracks made using
Re-birth (and only Re-birth).

Rules:

1. Tracks should be made solely in Re-birth.
2. No mods may be used.
3. No post production of tracks in other programs/hardware
may be used. E.G. No loading the .wav into wavelab/nuendo
for mastering/mixing/to apply effects.
4. Any tracks audibly (to my ears) not adhering to the above
rules, will not be used.
5. There is no BPM limit.
6. To keep with the spirit of the project, sequencing should
be done in rebirth itself and not the "Pattern Master" or
"PatternEditor" third party addons. NB I won't be able to
tell if you've done this or not, adhering to this is just
part of the challenge/fun of it :)

Get your DLable copy here. It's in the "Downloads
sections", you need to register, but it's free and easy to
do so.

As some users have expressed concern at the filesize/DL
speed of the official download, anyone able to host a
smaller, more stripped down version (no manual, demo songs,
etc.) should post a link to it here.

Submission format:

MP3s or links to downloads to be sent to:
'cerijc@gmail.com', not the yahoo account listed in
my profile.

For reference, and more info about the software, here's the
previous thread.

Please don't post links to your tracks/share them before the
compilation is finished. Thank you.

I look forwards to hearing your tracks!

Last submission date: 20th November, 2005.

i don't have windows, i have linux. would it be okay to use
this linux approximation of rebirth called freebirth?
i could understand if you say no because it isn't the same
exact thing.

Fi Sir! Get thee from this thread and hang your head in
shame! Sorry Jaser, Rebirth only mate.

Are you sure you don't have access to a PC somewhere that
could run this (maybe at work or college)? I remember it
happily working on a mate's 486 with 4MB of ram, despite
what the "minimum specs" are now.

If you're in Stroud I could probably steal you an old PC
from work and install rebirth on that and drop it round for
you to use, if you'd like?

Skink: I look forwards to hearing what you do. Could be
quite different to your normal style, I imagine.

I'm off on holiday for 10 days, but I'll try to get to an
internet cafe to check my mail at least once.

Sorry chap, Rebirth only. Otherwise it'd soon end up as a
"lets make tracks that sound vaugely like rebirth" IE just
303/808/909 type sounds. If the quality of tracks is high
enough I'll contact propellerheads and ask them to
listen/link to the finished vibes. I don't reckon they'd be
up for it if not all tracks were done in Rebirth.

Not wanting to stereotype, but if your a Linux user, you
probably have access to an old spare PC you could install
windows and rebirth on?

Not to be uncharacteristically rude, but the last thing I'd
ever want t listen to is 60+ minutes of derivitive lego acid
music made with bloody Rebirth. How about expanding the
rules a little bit?

To be fair, you should enter and make that not the case
then!

It's an interesting experience trying to get my sound across
without using my sample collection or my own synth patches.
You should try it!

Yeah I never tried Rebirth, it would be a nice idea I'll
love to participate in this, without any knowledge of the
software.

But hmm... can we wait a little for the whole shebang
download problem ends, many of us just have problems
downloading the software as it cuts and cuts and cuts all
the time.

we mean, are you gonna rock the house with your rebirth

weave it into the xltronic dreamcoat that is xltronic vibes

this is what we want to know. but hurry and answer, our

trust me, your helper monkey paco could program rebirth. it
all comes down to whether or not you'll take the time to
make a track out of simulated 303's an 808 and a 909 (with
funky pattern filters distortion and digital delay). it's
the challenge of making something interesting with an
extremely limited set of tools.

here's hoping you give it a shot!

the zip I downloaded only contained an ISO, which is a disc
image, which is what you directly burn unto a cd-r, or run
in an emulator like daemon tools.

there is a normal install exe inside the ISO.

Well said!

The idea of it being a challenge using limited tools is spot
on. You can actually get some great effects with the limited
tools available and some careful programming/automation.
It's a test of your skills, rather than how big your VST
library is :)

I've just got back from holiday and checking my gmail
account, there was only email from one person relating to
this project. Has anyone other than Yard (great
tracks mate, absolute corkers!) sent a submission yet?
