Planet Mu thoughts?

After reading that Frog Pocket thread i started
thinking...

no one really talks about Mu anymore.

Why is that? Do you like Mu? If not why?

I want more BIT MEDDLER!!!!!! zomg

it is because Mu is just peddeling breakcore these days, or
so it seems. ok i don't know the label that well, but from
recent releases i've heard and the stigma its getting it
does seem to be that way. don't get me wrong, breakcore is
break-tacular (sorry) but theres only so much you can take,
right?

i have really lost interest in this label. everything is a
bit too similar nowadays on this label. even mike p want in
on the breakcore game, i reckon.

hope jega's new album (when it comes out - if ever) isn't
like this.

planet mu never seemed to interest me

i have 2 releases on the label, 000 upon cycles and The
Gasman the electric palace of variety, both i'd rate C
material

Interesting point. Lack of varied material will generate a
lack of interest. I can agree with your statement

comments.

i like a couple mu releases but i think of the label in
general as a pile of shit

a pile of shit that i have way too much of, buy some mu 7
inches anyone?

there are constantly interesting albums on mu... sorrounded
by lots of blah releases... at least for me.

Like any other label, they put out good and bad stuff. The
OOO album on there is brilliant.

I am from WATMM and there Skam has more of a mystical aura,
Mu don't seem to has one but I like their artists, their
records, Mu is just also awesome but only, not as
mysterious.

Now if there'd be a label releasing records exclusively in
the mould of Go Plastic then I would say, this is a good
record label too. That is just why I'm a Squarepusher fan
primarily.

When i step back from the scene i really do appreciate
squarepusher. Then again i havent listened since the promo
of UV.

W'hoops I might have contraindicated myself as breakcore
seems totally heavily influence by Go Plastic but I guess,
oh ho hum man I guess I just wanted to talk about
Squarepusher some more.

thats ok. I think next to Bubble and Squeek.... Go plastic
is the best release he has done. And that my friend, is a
tough call.

:D

a label people like holds label style over artists style.
that gives the label personality. i think Planet Mu holds
artist style over label style. i'm not saying either is
better, that just seems to be the way it is

Last I heard, bit meddler is in the process of working on
more music, but he never gets around to finishing anything,
so you could expect an album release anytime between a
couple months from now to a year or never, but hes working
on music now, which is a lot better than not working on
music at all.

If you want some of his stuff thats not quite IDM, here is
the site to the design company that he owns. OBELISK

Be warned, its not what you think. There is a lot of metal
in their commercials, but if you watch the video labeled
delos, the music from a third of the way through to the end
is all his. Also, the stuff in car wash is all his too.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2005-08-25 01:38 [#01705767]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker

Actually, its not just his design company. Him and a friend
own it together.

Venetian Snares - Meathole, Rossz, and HCCBU
Datrach'i - Mmale and Ffemale
Edit - Crying Over Pros For No Reason
Vex'd - Degenerate

just some of the reasons I dig mu

I think they're pretty good. I've listened to random samples
off their website and a lot of the stuff sounds pretty
impressive.

One label I've never been able to get into is Rephlex. I've
got the Rephlex compilations and some other random CDs, and
a load of MP3s, and none of it is particularly impressive
bar Aphex Twin's stuff.

Mu are fucking great. They aren't an "IDM" label. They
also aren't a breakcore label. You might not like the more
urbanish style of many of their recent releases but there
have been a lot of absolute stormers in there. The other
good thing about Mu is that a lot of the artists grow up and
mature with the label which is always enjoyable to hear.
Music needs labels like Planet Mu, end of story.
