What was intended to be a comprehensive collection
disappoints with the disinclusion of essential early Black
Dog tracks. Also, those who have tasted various MP3's of
some of these tracks will discover inferior mixes and
criminally short edits ("Uland" most notably).
Despite providing essential CD release of some classic
tracks, those who know the back catalog better will be
saddened by what's missing

interesting

it is missing the Rising High stuff that was originally
intended to be on there, but no one from the defunct label
could be reached to get a license for the tracks. story
goes, Rising High's lawyer screwed them and ran off with all
their money. think Vibert has told this story.

so no Balil - Parasight EP consisting of:

1. Parasight
2. Island
3. Rosery Pilots
4. Avidya

and the Black Dog Productions EP:

1. Balil - Flux
2. Balil & Arno - Flux D Mix
3. Atypic - Otaku
4. Atypic - Pillars & Mirrors

and then there is non of the stuff they helped do as Repeat
and Eco Tourist.

on the test pressings of Trainer those eight tracks were
actually there. was a 3xCD and a 4xLP i believe.

why did that promo include those tracks then?

i guess you don't have to get a license for songs on a test
press cause you're not selling it. and they had the songs so
they put them on there cause they thought they were going to
be able to.

but actually i'm glad they didn't get the license because
they ended up giving us Uland and Tan Sau in their place.

there is a nine minute version, not sure where it came from.
a friend gave me a copy of the track in 1996 or 97.

i have no idea where thats from either, but i do remember
people talking about it when Trainer arrived. its probably
from a live thing or radio session (though not Plaid Peel
Session 2) cause i'm pretty sure its not released on
anything.

i think the general consensus was that the long version of
"uland" was called "island paradise" and was released on
this cassette:

island paradise

i can't confirm this, though, because no one seems to
actually own this cassette (five people on discogs say they
own it). it is a truly superior version, i think, and worth
tracking down. no question there are files floating around,
maybe labeled "island praise."

yeah dude, thanks for that.

i had no idea. just wanted to add that "Uland" is of course
a remix of "Island" from Balil's Parasight EP

I was very disappointed by the edit down when it got
announced, mainly because Parasight was missing, although,
now that I think about it, why wasn't the track Parasight on
Trainer? Did Warp only have the license to it for AI?
Hopefully this will get put up on bleep like the other old
BDP stuff so I can get it legit
