"qualifications are all about jumping through hoops, not a lot to do with your intelligence."
Those are the exact same words my friend told me before uni, It's the reason I hate it.
Education doesn't count for shit without experience and passion for a subject. I've said it before on here but If you lock yourself away for a year making music or whatever (no other distractions)....you will get good at it. Education is for unmotivated people who are incapable of experimenting and learning for themselves.
Note: What I just said is probably bullshit

You're right!
I wish I had not gone to Uni - turned out to be a waste of time and effort. I did do Fine Art which in hindsight was far to easy to pass and then a masters which was a breeze as well.
In the end I lucked out because I knew how to use Director, Flash had just come out and the internet boom was happening. $$$$$$!!!
I don't think I will ever earn that much again!

experience counts for more than anything else. qualifications are by and large a waste of time. as are degrees. these waster students could be out earning real money and contributing to the economy instead of bumming about learning a mickey mouse degree that helps no one and achieves nothing.

can i just say though if someone said to you 3 years getting drunk smoking drugs having sex and occasionally reading a book, plus we'll loan you the money to do it
wouldnt you? i mean christ its the only oppertunity im gonna get to avoid work
im not lazy i just see an oppertunity to have a laugh and i do
for me uni is more about the experiance, i elarnt loads about myself, mainly that id rather be out working than sat round learning philosophy
but i dindt discover that untill uni and im glad ive done it (doing it , im repeating a year so about to start my 4th and final year)
yer its annoying id rather be out doing an aprenataship but i started so ill finish

the ins and outs of an msn convo i had with a fellow student:
all exams measure is how well you can do exams and for me i can't do exams very well. life isn't about exams it's about actual situations and experience.
that's why i'm going to take a gap year. test the water a little.
it's almost as if we're made to go to uni without question for the benefit of the banks who feed off our debts. obviously something would be in it for the government who get some of the commision from the banks!
cause otherwise we're sheltered for so long then get dumped out with everyone else searching for someway to make a living
+ a massive debt lol to make it that little bit harder. we need to get streetwise and who knows, in our gap year we could find our perfect job and grades are not needed from uni anymore
ppl want experience not a piece of paper which tells them your good at storing information to spill out on paper in 'exam conditions'
-----------------------
I think this pretty much sums it all up!

well i wasn't meant to be having a go at all students. most of my mates are students. ok i was having a go at students.
i've spent the last 3 years of my life getting wasted and having a great laugh, and i've been earning money whilst i've been doing it.
having a degree doesnt make people smarter it just expands their knowledge of media studies.

the thing for me about uni is the fact ive met people form all ove rthe world and ive learnt to wear and say get your tits out in over 10 languages. but seriously ive met people i would never have met working.
i get ot go on holidays and stay for free in milan or stokholme becaus eof friends ive mad its great and ive elarnt so much baout the world.
i do hate the student stigma of the hippy tree hugging thing that annoys me its like ur a student so you know nothing of the world tehre fore ur opinions are not valid, which i think is bollocks i know of the world just not the working world
debt wise it sucks balls i owe 20 grand all ready and ime 2,000 over drawn
but thats why you move abroad for 4 years and your debts are cancelled ;)
but yer ive loved uni ive made friends ill keep for life and im looking foreward to getting out and embracing everyday non student life, but i must say it will hopefully be abroad

Thanks man! I am taking a year out before doing English at Oxford. It was more of a thrill getting the offer from Ox than it was getting the results I needed for it, if you get me. But no I cannot complain at all! All is good, hopefully a great night with my entire year is on the cards tonight.

nice one. congratulations!
i don't know what they talking bout on the news etc. there may be loads of people passing but a D is considered a pass and everyone sees that as a fail. i've been asking around and all don't seem that shockingly good to make a fuss about.
fucking ignorant government officials.
