I've had enough bad reactions to know that I should keed
this stuff to myself. People react diffrently when in a
group than own their own. Especially to introspective music
that demands concentration. It is harder to appreciate in a
social group where everyone conforms to a common taste in
order to avoid tension. It's much better to loan someone a
cd and let them listen privately without any distractions.

that's not very nice... but I suppose it's nicer than hoping
I get shot in the face.

I was joking, by the way.

I was thinking something along those lines!

Especially if youe xposed the child to something like
Selected Ambient works, vol 2 or something. I imagine it
would be stimulating....

whats the point of forcing music upon kids? just so you have
the satisfactory feeling that your kid likes what you like?
bah!

offline PhystPhukt from The Holiest of Holes (United States) on 2005-07-19 14:29 [#01668593]
Points: 1414 Status: Addict | Followup to ToXikFB: #01668590

Not forcing, mind you. Exposing, more like. If I have kids,
which I wont, then they would listen to just about
everything.....Kids get exposed to music and media all the
time, and the parents choose what to play for them, right?

So....how about instead of Bobby's first telly program being
Barney, its constantly running around the house while I
listen to Underworld and whatnot?

We're just wondering if it would make a difference.

when i was in college i had skinny puppy (mind: the
perpetual intercourse) playing on my stereo. when i went
down the hall to visit the bathroom, when i returned i
discovered that my neighbors had entered my room and smashed
the cassette with a hammer (i saw them sneaking out of my
room from down the hall). they hid the smashed cassette
under my pillow. i had the last laugh though; my roommate
bought some weed from them, paid with a check, then had the
check canceled.

They smashed your cassette? Thats not cool.....but at least
you got 'em back with the check thing.

I probably would have just sat in my room, frowning.

Cool, cool.

Also.....another point since you brought up the metal thing,
around here, kids who were raised on good old home grown
heavy metal all turn out to be Whiggers.

i forgot the other last laugh: the cassette shell broke
apart, but the little plastic nubs that the screws went
through were intact. long story short, i glued the cassette
(maxell, i believe) back together and it still played. i
still have the cassette, too.

they got some last laughs as well, however. the next
halloween i was accosted by one of them and i was too drunk
to fight back. i was dressed in a skunk costume, too.

My friend would jump you and mount that ass if he saw you in
a skunk costume. He's a serious furry.

But anyhow, I assume you dont see those guys anymore?
Otherwise I'd get The Warriors together and go trolling!

God....that movie....

Well, I will say this. Searching for our own music is a much
healthier alternative to sitting on the couch in front of
the TV and having pop media and music being spoon-fed to us.
Erm, figuratively speaking, that is.

those kids respond to "different" music.

Can someone dig it up?

Why did't you punch them out? they smashed your stereo
and stole your music! Are you a pussy or a peace activist?
I'll make it clear for you....

I suggest you fucking force them to listen to Rossz Csillag
Allat Szuletett at full force until they become mentally
ill. Then you won't have to hear them whine about "oh my
look I don't understand your music therefore it must suck"

Or you can just ignore them and continue enjoy it yourself.
Like the way most of us do. And in the meanwhile, try to be
a good teacher to those few, who are willing to open their
eyes to new stuff :)

We've heard them all (We should make a list or something) :

"Man that's like a bunch of people hitting on trashcans"
"L0L he's like doing fart sounds" (on some Squarepusher Big
Loada track)
"Dude you're CD is skipping"
"That's so easy without any voice track"
"I bet it's he just hits "Go" on his computer"
"Bet you can only dance to that doing the robot"

Sometimes one of them will secretly tell you "Wow it felt
like I was marching on some iceberg watching the sun go
down" when you put on some BoC. You then know that this
person, well, you have now a certain role to educate him
musically and expand his horizon, 'cause he's already near
it man, he's almost there!!!! And bringing somebody new to
the IDM world, is like a fucking great gift any of us could
give.

oh, and, i'm starting to find responses are becoming more
positive. you watch, it'll be "cool" to like idm some day,
except it'll be terrible crappy idm with absolutely none of
the qualities that we all love. you know, there's decent
music in almost every genre out there, but what the
mainstream (gah, hate to use that term, sound so elitist)
seem to like is pure simplified shit.

jesus. it'd be nice to know more people with good music
taste around here, that's for sure. i know very few.

actually, i take that back. nothing wrong with simple
music; i probably meant 'annoying and cheesy'. make an
annoying, catchy tune or noise, repeat ad nauseam, instant
hit.

Crappy IDM... some sort of Moby Drum&Bass'ed with a little
touch of DSP/glitch/BufferOverride?

lol anyway I can't wait to see Missy Elliot or the Neptunes
release a R&B/pop/mainstream album that would be a complete
IDM album if not for the singing...

"Au le Monde de IDM" ? ??? LOL more like "Dans le monde de
l'IDM"
