Ok so I've been working with reason since 1.0, but now I'm
stuck.
I can't seem to get that cool sound I want out of malstrom
and subtractor, and this is a huge hinderance for me since
I'll then have to download samples.

I don't know where to find cool samples.

My problem is, I want to create the music I've always wanted
to, but all the presets in malstrom sound very weak and
thing, and not at all what I'm looking for.
SO my question is, where can I find the equipment to find
the sounds I always dreamt of?
How can I create those sounds?

Where do I find cool drum samples? How do I create my own
drum samples that sound analogue and not digital?

I can do music easily, program the notes, program the drum
beats and such, it's very easy to be creative in Reason, but
I have no idea how to create "my own sound".

Any ideas appreciated.

making your own synth patches is probably a good idea.

Change music environments. I don't care what the
reason fanatics have to say. Its inferior. Fruityloops is
cheaper, more appropriate for sound design, and with all the
free high quality vst plugins that are available, you can
make professional quality music without the shitty
interface.

Here is a site for vst plugins. KVR They
litterally update this site hourly.

Reason
Fruityloops

I disagree but that could be because I can't use Fruity
Loops.

I advise you to learn subtractive synthesis first. It's fairly easy
to comprehend and most of it is damn near universal - even
if you're doing sampling or FM synthesis you're still using
envelopes, LFOs and maybe filters too.

Synth 1 is a great free little hybrid synth that has
everything you need to learn the basics. KVR has
lots of patches for it.

but WHY is it "shit" to you ?

one of my mates keeps saying "fl is shit" but i haven't
heard any finished track from him for years. he's
experimenting with cubase/metaliser and is happy to achieve
something like sq-pusher 180bpm loops.

Synth 1 is a very nice free vst. get it.

If you are looking for a certain sound or texture,
experiment.

*ps: dont diss the FLStudio

Heh... the thing is, both fruity and reason are shit... but
fruity is not necessarily inferior. With the math
controllers and full vst support, and the 64 channel mixer
with open routing, and the granular sampler, and the wav
traveller, and the different kinds of playback options in
the standard sampler, its a good tool for sound design at a
novice level.

a nord modular is nice the g2 in partic i just got the
engine and it is fucking sweet (range of sounds is immense
and it sits so nicely in a mix)goes nicely with ableton +
with the right cabling and mixer(s) ive gotten the nord to
process a 303 and get it to go into a spring reverb and
back.... i think hardware lets you fuck around in amusing
ways and is not likely to crash which is always nice to
know. but if yr just bored of yr sounds something like max
msp or reaktor is not too expensive considering the sounds
you can get/imagine.

I am starting a hardware setup, but I don't think I will
ever get past sequencing it through cubase. I am cubase all
the way.

Reaktor is a good tool, but once again, its no
environment... Max/MSP is a good tool too, but steep
learning curve (ie: its difficult from the start, and
doesn't seem to look like its getting any easier). I have
only begun to play with max/msp.

good laptop w/ a great soundcard. I've been waiting for
ableton for years. It should only get cooler.
