So, at the not so tender age of 28, I have finally bit the
bullet and decided to jack in work and take myself away from
all the shit for three years at university. Come September,
I'll pack my bags and head down to Plymouth for a degree in
marine biology and oceanography.

A few things worry me though, answer these points for me
please:
* How hard / easy is it to live of student loans?
* Is it a good idea to get a job of some sort?
* Those who have been to university, how easy did you find
it to get a job in your chosen field afterwards?
* Is there actually anything to do in Plymouth?

Not too sure if I will be a success at this point, so please
ease / enforce my current situation if you have any
experience.

thankyouplease.

plymouth is pretty isolated. but at 28 you're far more
mentally prepared and equiped to deal with things in general
than at 18. you may also notice there are no buildings over
the age of 60 years due to it being flattened during the
war. a part time job a couple of nights a week would ease
your money worries no end if you don't mind working behind a
bar or something similar. good luck anyway i hope you enjoy
yourself, don't get too caught up in your studies.

Buy as much dope as you can and sell it to your class mates
(18 year olds suddenly seperated from their dealers!), you
should be able to live off the profits for a while.

yeah my mate thought that for 6 months until the cops busted
our flat at 8 o clock in the fucking morning and searched
all of us. he got 3 months, fucking pig bastards. as if they
have nothing better to do.

I'm getting prepared by quitting my job and doing nothing
all summer

it's only this student loans money thing that puts me off
going back to university. it's not as if i have anything
else to do, or any commitments.

good friend of mine who lives down the road (and that's
something cause out here it's very very sparsely populated)
is going to college in plymouth studying "construction
design and the environment" or some shite like that.

i'll tell him to look out for 'bob'. he deals some good
weed.

my sister's husband is a marine bioligist. he just secured
himself a nice job managing a trout farm outside of glasgow
in scotland. i just applied for uni next year in social
dynamics. it seems like the only worthwhile thing to do at
this stage in my life.

How do people know what they want to do? How can someone
possibly know all the different kinds of jobs there are out
there and what the daily life of one is like?

When I was at university this rich Japanese guy used to say
"Let the sex flow", I think we all could learn something
from that.

Good luck, your going to a good place to do oceanography and
marinebiology. (at least it's by the sea, unlike some others
which do the course).
