Magic is the crack cocaine of the gaming community.

Fortunately enough, the gaming community never leaves their
comic shop or home, so they don't end up breaking into other
peoples cars to buy more majic cards.

I used to have a pretty good collection (when I was twelve).
Had all three demon power cards and a bunch of other rare
things... had a powerfull black deck, blue deck, white and
red deck and a green black and blue deck. My black deck had
4 racks, four vices and a howling mines, so I would just
kill everyone with cards and mana burn...

I used to have a very respectable collection of magic cards
and played at local tournaments and comic shops, that is
untill all my cards were stolen at school. I've never looked
back since.

That damn science teacher, I told him to lock the doors and
check everyones bag, he ... didn't care.

i was a total magic nuts in my early teens

btw, bird of paradise is one mana that's what makes it so
powerful and serra angel sure is 5 mana total

pfff what a loser remembering all that :D

and, yes, i made money off it, but it wasn't cool to rip off
younger people who didn't know the real second-hand value of
those cards

fun facts: they are(were) printed in belgium (carta mundi)
well, ate least when i was still playing, thought many times
to rob the factory lol

magic is a weird addiction.

the magic company is able to make their printed paper cards
value hundreds of dollars.

its a fuckin great idea, in fact. money bigger and easier
than savetoby.com

I used to play magic too when I was 12. I was pretty good at
it and my complete deck was worth about 200 euros or
something. I used to play with a complete red deck. 4 bolts
(1 mana-> 3 damage), 2 eathquakes, 4 wildfires, 4 mishra's
factories and a couple of other cards I can't remember
anymore. it was mostly a destroy deck.

Rings!!!

i recently started playing this again after a break of a few
years.

never spent much money on it, and never will.

my coolest card is 'sliver queen' which i got from a booster
(teh awesomeness!).

sol rings are sweet, but a little too good.

mono red sucks. but above all i hate WHITE. stupid
protection and life gain CRAP.

this game rocks and always will. but the new cards are crap
(the ones that look like star trek or something).

Played it when I was in school then last year a few of my
friends bought cards again. They are really cheap now, the
place would let you fill a box of common cards for $5.00. I
did that and played a few times, but I think they have just
sat in my car's glove box ever since.

Got into it around the time the revised edition got out. Saw
it a year or so before I got into it at a games convention
and payed it no attention, so I missed my chance to get a
hold of those coveted alpha and beta edition cards, moxes,
black lotus etc.
From there my schoolyear went to waste as I could only be
found buying, trading and playing mtg. at the local comic
shop, the owner had his best years, businesswise. I Invested
crazy amounts of cash in it, and til this day I still have
an insane collection of cards collecting dust somewhere.
Also aqcuired quite a collection of the "duelist" and
"inquest" magazines. Used to play referee guy for fun on
tourneys and loved discussing the rules with others. I quit
it some time after they came up with all sorts of new rules
and additions I didn't dig, but also because of lack of
opponents. Still love the game though, and would love to
play it again. That's it basically.

Nerds know how to have fun!

To iszienot:
"I used to play magic too when I was 12. I was pretty

That's what we used to call a cheese deck of the lamest
kind.

Heh.... I just remembered, I had a couple of artifact decks
too... fucking deadly stuff. I used to just build up
ornothopters with a whole bunch of enchantments, and then
make it so that the enchantments would last with the
ornithopter whenever I would need to reincarnate them, and
then destroy their land with my demonic hordes (always threw
one of these in, with a couple dopplegangers), and then keep
them just barely alive for hours untill they would forfeit.
The game was rarely fun to me unless I made someone
uncomfortable.

I hate mtg after the odyssey block.... all the cards after
that are played with the mentality of "my biggest most
expensive rare vs. yours"

it's not about awesome combo choices made up of cards that
suck on their own, but are awesome in tandem, anymore. its
all about having a 13/13 flying trample that doesnt tap when
it attacks. I can't stand the new card layout either, it
looks fucking cheesy as shit.

It's a rip-off of Pokemon the trading cards game. That was
the only "card game" i ever got into and it will be the only
one. Looking back I spent ridiculously huge amounts of money
for pieces of coloured card (although..... some of them were
shiny *shiny*).

At the risk of defending Pokemon :S

Magic cards' popularity soared with the pokemon trading
cards phenomenon. It was an underground game played D&D
fanatics until pokemon blasted open the way to the mass
consumer market.

Both games are a huge waste of money at I can't believe I
was ever part of it.

saying that spending money on these games is stupid, is
pretty stupid.

When you started spending money on these cards, it was a lot
of fun. You could have sold most of them when you quit. If
you still have them, it's pretty sad to go complaining over
the fact that you ever bought them in the first place.

I still have a pretty nice collection that i will probably
never sell, regardless of the value. I just dont see what
good a few bucks is for a couple of cards, which i'll just
spend on alcohol now.

mtg is still fun because its a very solid game with bendable
rules and it has great artwork. fact.

Though it did go downhill with the new layout cards.

i'm not sure to who this post is directed but thats ok.

spending money on these games is stupid because you could as
well create your own game (or use proxies for that matter)
and it would be alot more fun. the thing that made me quit
is that I realized that to get into this game game you
depended on what wizards decided to create next, wich wasn't
anything exciting or original at all, ever.

These games are very stupid because geting into them is just
pretty lame. and then you got to meet these over obssesed
fan-geeks of mtg that could only talk about combos and, in
general, just really silly things.

still - you said Magic was a rip-off of Pokemon, which is
just completely wrong.

you're not defending pokemon, you just started to talk about
a completely different aspect of these games.

I know it was wrong to call it a rip-off but if pokemon
hadn't become so popular Magic would probably still be a
relatively underground game. It's true though that I'm only
talking about the Trading cards aspect of the two games, in
respect with the other aspects I have no opinion and thus my
comments can't be used on let's say the gameboy game or the
mythology behind the games etc.
