Thanks redrum!
I'm going to buy this record for sure!!

This amazing stuff reminds me of the Warp meets London
Sinfonietta gig.

30 seconds samples.

They are way better than the London Sinfonietta imo.

I just ordered this release, it's only $ 20.- including
shipping to Holland!

yes this is all really great stuff.

It was ToxikFB who told me about these guys (regardless of
his reply to this thread ;) and I really didn't expect much
of '4'.. but it's really astounding stuff innit?

blows the london symphonietta out of the water.

Aesthetics.. when you have the cd.. drop us a line :)

they manage to suck a little of the life out of 4, it sounds
a little listless. still, i like it enough to consider
getting the whole album, great find...

well when you take crazy synth sounds and play them with
'sterile' sounds like regular acoustic instruments with no
effects (other than reverb maybe), of course it's going to
suck some of the life out. :D

hmm, well it does say they used electric guitars and
electric bass, though I didnt hear any in the 4 sample

the original just has such momentum and tension wound up in
it, this version's tempo seems a bit slower also (don't have
the original at work to compare, though). despite the fact
that they made "4" sound like the tv theme to a show about
young lawyers and the trials they face in the big city i
still like it...

overall i think they did a very good job.

anyone who like these might also want to check out the
balanescu quartet's string arrangements of kraftwerk
classics, very nicely done as well.

I heard a few tracks from this. Some more samples here, maybe linked
already, I didn't check.

Not really big on it... cool that they can duplicate the
percussion, but I was hoping for a complete rethinking of
the material, the melody and tunes are there for it. I
didn't WANT to hear that percussion done like that again,
I've already heard that. But it's still very cool, just not
what I expected or wanted.

...not for me either, it just sounds bad - but I guess the
trained musicians do what they´re used too - playing
covers. great to have the kitchy "Phil Collins goes
classical"-treatment on AFX music.

was there really a need for hearing avril 14th acoustic?!?!
Nah, come on - do "73-yips" instead! :D

I´ve heard of alarm will sound before, they´re playing on
a Steve Reich album I got... (that track on that album
sounds just as mediocre as those AFX-covers, but I haven´t
another version of that track so I can´t compare it with
another performance, maybe it´s written that way. compared
to "octet", alarm will sounds version of "music for a large
esemble" sounds as something being shuffled to extreme on a
Roland 808 machine)
