Confield

Finally last Saturday my girlfriend gave me Confield, last
work of Autechre.
I listen it only 2 times and I need more time for a correct
valuation.
My first impression is that these two guys has a great
talent, a great fantasy and an enormous courage.
As you know their new kind of music isn't my favourite, I
prefer the melodies of old AE albums, etc... but I must
admit who they're really innovative and take their risks to
make all these experimets.
They're touching the edges of the electronic music...

I've a great esteem for Autechre and I think RICHARD D.
JAMES must have a little bit of AUTECHRE courage for
experiment something new and release new stuff, and when I
say "new" I mean "new" (I like drukqs but most of the songs
are olds).

Finally someone who admits that Confield is 'genial' even
tho he does not really like the style/genre himself.

I'm still wondering about the snorring in the track Uviol.
Is it sampled snorring or are the beats sequenced so that it
sounds like snorring? Anyway I like half of the album.

Eidetic Casein is my fav.
There is another song behind which comes
through several times; it sounds as some broken robots with
much to big hands are trying to dj but the damn machines
always break together.

Can someone explain what confield sounds like??? Are there
any constant beats or is it like a 'noise' album.

i think cfern and pen expers are my favs too. the album is
hard to describe, strange new textures and time signatures
that i cant identify and you just have to hear it. its a
masterpiece for sure.

It sounds like granular synthesis bouncing blips, creepy
background textures and uncommon time signatures.

Confield is, in my opinion, the worst album that I've ever
heard of any genre.

After more than a year of listening, the programmed noises,
clicks, beats and samples are still an endless boring
progression of programmed noises, clicks, beats and
samples.

The release of this album was the ultimate joke on the
electronic music community. If you don't like it, of course
you just haven't 'gotten it' yet. If you do like it, and it
becomes your favorite Autechre album or even your favorite
album of all time, this, along with a few coy
mentions of Merzbow, becomes your ticket to joining the
message board elite.

Learning to like it is a bit like being programmed by a
religious cult. You didn't know exactly why you didn't like
it before, but since it 'grew on you' you can't recall
exactly why it sucked before and now it's the best thing
since Internet porn, or at least since Chiastic Slide.

Lest this post be entirely negative, I did find that the
Confield CD, when dangled from a tree branch and gently
twirling in the breeze, was an effective way of keeping the
birds from eating the summer grass seed I just planted in
the yard.

I'm going to swap my neighbor's daughter's Celine Dion CD
with Confield for a laugh, she likes to sing along to her
Celine. This is a fitting end for this aborted pile of
poop.

And yes, I am an idiot for taking this long to reach this
conclusion.

sim gishel, you can feel the bass almost as much as you hear
it, i mean you need to play it thru a good amp on like 15"
subwoofers.

I have. I still sounds crappy. I'd rather listen to some
techno bass crew, It sounds much better on 15" woofers than
confield. I don't think any speakers could make this sound
good, or any drug.

I don't see what thrills people about venetian snares
eithor. It all sounds like shit to me. Thats just my
opinion, but I don't see what enjoyment or "Art" one could
hear in it. I've tried to listen to it, and it just sounds
like Poo. I still love Incunabula and Tri-Repetae. But
baghkndfg to confield. Oh well.

* only pretending to like it to be cool, or
* brain damaged or on drugs, or
* not human

well.. that'll be the third choice then..
since the other two don't count for me :)

really, i don't see what the big deal is,
it's all about opinions right? can't someone just like
something you don't like?

in fact i listen to this album especially at evenings when
i'm allone at my room, 'cause i know (nearly) no-one i know
likes it, so i'm not trying to show of to someone or
something
i really enjoy listening to this, i'm sorry
i have never known that i'm not a human 'cause of that

i do listen to it every other day and i do enjoy it
i don't like the pretentious talking about 'getting' it or
something. it's nothing i have to do for the music, it does
it for me. that album effects me emotionally like only few
others, maybe the new radiohead or 'yoshimi' from the
flaming lips (both only recently)
it's organic, there is no intellectual battle to win against
yourself or something.

my thoughts on "getting" music

when i say "getting" music, i mean this: usually when i
first hear an album, afterwards i usually can't remember how
the songs went. most times it takes me a few listens to tell
if i like something or not. when i "get" a song i become
familiar with it and it passes my "test", meaning i like it.

I like it, pretending is not the case as I play the CD while
driving the car on my own for instance. I never play it with
anyone near me, as most people I know can' stand it. So it's
not a case of being cool.

Not on drugs, brain damaged could be...

Not human? interesting hypothesis, but my girlfriend would
probably disagree.

about Confield...
after listening this album for first time i was
confussed...and i put it on shelf for a long long time...
then...after few months and after listening to earlier ae
album ( like EP7 , or Tri ) i put Confield to cd rack ...and
i was confused again , but satisfied as well...this is the
best way to learn what Ae are , and what kind of music they
love....
to understand Confield doesn't mean to like it...just listen
to it for a few times without any emotions , be cold like
sounds on this album are...then turn it offf , think for a
while and liste to it again..repeat this for a few
days....then maybe you will understand why Ae is so
"awesome"
ps.s this is only my opinion

what , anything , learn write , talk , and let the Confield
play in background , not too loud of course...

Confield is great album who I listen only in special
occasions. I turn off all the lights, I close eyes and I
enter in a special meditate state of mind.
Track1, is amazing... the piano melody who grows in the
backgorund is full of solitude and sadness.
