hmm, well. there is no information I can get other than the domain "ashevilleoffice"
There are NO personal documents on the machine whatsoever. the event log shows that it's been in use once every 2 or 3 weeks for just over a year.

Seriously, keep it. I'm sure who ever lost it didn't pay for it and you'll put more use into it then they ever did.

Hi Pomme,
From the sounds of it, either:
a) Someone in the drugs business using it for records (and wisely saving them to a format cheaper/easier to destroy or hide). Unlikely though unless those docs were encrypted- you checked for anything like PGP on the pc? (they'd probably encrypt the excel files that were saved to disk). Lots of even fairly smallscale dealers use laptops with excel instead of little black books nowadays.
b) It's a company laptop used by someone who works on the road/a manager and it was almost always used in the office (hence usually connected to the network).
In either case, it's not like it's a musician whose whole studio and back history of tracks is on there and to whom the data would be more important than the machine itself. As you say not much data on there, so I'd not be too bothered about keeping it.
I suppose someone could have stole it, wiped it and then used it as you described, but at over a year, the chances of tracking down the original person could be slim.
