Any ideas?

I used to be faily good at predicting trends etc. But now I
am at a loss to which bandwagon to jump on.

It is certainly better than allowing Unions power. I'm sure
Canada is not unique in that all the major political parties
are increadably flawed and you have to choose the lesser of
three evils.....

One of the political parties here the NDP is strongly Union
based. I think that if they got into power there would be a
general strike....

A general strike would be horrible.

No trash taken away
Emergency Health care only
No public Transport
blah blah blah

Unions are not helping exploited workers as they were
designed to, they are a disruptive unprogressive force that
is counter productive to public services and business.

offline laniatus from United States on 2005-05-13 12:40 [#01597878]
Points: 408 Status: Lurker

I disagree with that wholeheartedly. Unions have done a lot
for society and the wages of workers. They keep the pay and
labor fair.

I am not saying that they have not done some great things.
But as they stand, you have to be fortunate to be in
unionised employment to see the benefits while exploitation
exists outside of unions. My experience with unions has
shown me that if you are in a union you are rewarded for
your time with the employer rather than on performance,
closing the door on those who exel at their job for
promotion. If you are a bad worker and unionised you can not
be fired.

I belive in socialism but as with a lot of people unions are
the biggest problem to a realistic socialist government.

offline laniatus from United States on 2005-05-13 12:51 [#01597889]
Points: 408 Status: Lurker

Well, that's a well thought out response, but as the
daughter of a union man, I'd feel traitorous to side with
anyone else. I see what you're saying about the rewards of
time spent with the company as opposed to actual competency.
That's a good point that should be more further examined by
the employers and union. But I do feel that unions have done
much more good than wrong. And why do you say that they're
the biggest problem to a realistic social government?

You should elect a government that can think for it self
rather than having a third party steering it. I understand
that all politics, are to a certain extend steered by
external forces but Union power is often misused as a threat
and often unions fail to see the bigger picture.

Yes, it's a horrible idea to protect workers who toil their
whole lives for a company and finally start to make a
comfortable wage. They should be tossed out as soon as some
young piss-ant comes along and thinks he knows a better way.

The main impediment to socialism is that the labor unions in
the united states have been decimated and liberal causes
have suffered accordingly.

You are so full of shit it's laughable. Corporate America
controlls politics. The fall of the middle class is in
direct correlation to the decimation of labor unions and the
subsequent and inevitable dwindling support for liberal
causes.

As I said before the conservative brainwashing is
progressing well north of the border.

Politics could be the next big thing. I was hoping 2004 was

head out of its ass, but it seems that we are headed the
other way- Bush, Blair and now Canada!
