when i was in college there was one week where people stood up on the steps of the library at a podium and read the names of people who died in WW2 over some speakers in a monotone voice all day long for the entire week. that was pretty hardcore i thought. |

it's terrible that all of those people died, but the soviets committed some serious atrocities at the end of the war. there was a lot of rapes and children slaughtered, they took who knows how many germans to their labour camps (similar to the ones the nazis had)... it was particularly vicious. i'm not saying you should feel sorry for the nazis, but i don't see how soviets torturing and killing civilians is any better than what the nazis did. you know, it was stalin... |

it goes to show that the Russians bore the brunt of the casualties, and it's fact that most of those were army casualties. they were relentless driving the nazis back into europe. and yet americans have the audacity and pure ignorance of the facts oh history (what the fuck, elusive/epohs/brokephones didn't know the soviet death toll was over 25m?!) and declare triumphantly that THEY won the war by dropping big fuck-off atomic bombs on two japanese cities, killing a few million innocent civilians, and plunging the world into eternal fear of nuclear war. |

its so high because there was a shortage of weapons in russia - if you were a russian soldier you were told to pick up the guns of your fallen comrades and continues fighting, result you had to wait until many died in order to fight back and yes russia defeated germany - but the usa stopped japan -who had their eyes on russia. but whatever |

actually WW2 is one of the most fondly remembered massacres that ever occured ....ever - its strange how millions and millions of people perished i calculated that the entire population of New England died in WW2, and yet it is the war the always thought of as "call to duty" "the right war" and its always refered to by american politicians when they want to get support for presend wars. bush's axis of evil springs to mind |

well, think about it - propaganda aside... hitler was conquering europe and exterminating races of people. if the world hadn't intervened, where would we be now (i know, the world sucks now, but think about what it would be like if hitler had won the war)? imagine the ruins of europe in the control of a dictator who commits genocide on non-aryans... saddam on the other hand, has this little country that was among the weakest in the region and doesn't pose a threat to any of his neighbors, and the superpower of the US goes in and destroys the place, grabbing dick cheney his fat contracts, killing all these innocent civilians in the face of world protest. if you can't figure out the difference between ww2 and the iraq invasion, you might be either borderline-retarded or a republican. |
