just got back from the ae gig and the biggest impression i
got is that rob hall is the most boring dj in the
universe..i saw him before and it was just as
boring..everytime he started to play the floor would empty.
autechre were so so..first part was extremly boring but i
loved the second, dark long repetitive patterns part.ahh

were you at Link? Autechre were great as usual, even if the
played only recent things i think, but they deserved....

tss tsss ;-)

i thought he was boring when i heard him recorded, then i
catched a bit of his set live and it was really exellent,
his sets are really weird but he's so good at mixing
anything he wants and making it alive
well i guess it's just not your taste :P

it wasn't his selection - i mean he played drexciya which i
love but the way he plays stuff..no diversity at all,
without any imagination, just tunes that are easy to beat
match and it just turns out boooring. i wasn't the only one
thinking that..what's even worse is that when i saw him the
previous time he played quite a few of the same songs..i
hope someone gives him a few new records for the next time i
might see him somewhere.

just read your mini-review there, thought it was boring. i
liked the second part though, didn't get as monotonous and
boring, then i wised up and realised it was just as shite as
the first part

wont be going again

what are you talking about tolstoyed? you're a stupid
twat..of course you're free to have your own opinions, but
rob hall can dj just fine...in fack the boomkat mix is quite
good and well put together and recorded live....i don't
really get what the fuck you're talking about with no
diversity though...i mean it is a dj set to dance to...so
what the fuck? if you want wanky ass country mixed with
autechre and the spice girls get yourself a copy of traktor
and put your cds in it. jackass.

I completely agree with you tolstoyed.; personnally I never
understood the succes of Robs dj sets.. like you said easy
to mix electro classics all the time.. really nothing
special.. for a skam dj I expect something else then electro
classix sorry

OUCH!
i know everybody is entitled to his tastes...
but c'mon, no diversity, no imagination, mixing easy to
match songs????
have you really heard his sets, i totaly agree that one can
find it average/boring linked to the songs played, but
saying he got no skills is not fair imo :p

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2005-05-02 04:19 [#01583101]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

i didn't say anything about mans skills..he could be the
most skilled dj ever, it's just that he doesn't show
it..apperantly i wasn't the only one thinking that since the
floor emptied (and im not exaggerating) every time he
started to play - i even felt sorry for him a bit, but i
could understand easily why no one would dance or even
listen to that..instead almost everyone went out where some
local dj's played raggae and dub and other chill out music
which was indeed much more interesting :)

no problem with that! :)

you were implying that he mixed easy to mix stuff with no
imagination, i reacted partly to that and to mashnote's
post...

he's strongly about mixing atmosphere together imo, one
things i think he is really good at

and emptying a room can be a sign of a good dj to me :D

when they come around next time i'll certanly go. i thought
i was only negative as far as rob hall is concerned :)
i also think i was expecting way too much - i've read some
comments of the ppl that saw them on this tour and they were
saying it was the best gig they've been to and so they
raised my expectations quite considerably. im not their big
fan although i appreciate them much more lately, but this
was still less than i expected to hear :)

you should go even if he'll play there..perhaps that's
autechre's little tactical plan - first rob bores everyone
to death so anything would sound good after that :)

you know, you listen to exactly the same kind of music he
usually plays, so if he won't be there just play some of
your records before the gig and you'll have the same
effect..

would expect for someone like him to do a much much more
eclectic sets..or at least to change a tempo here and there
:)

Maybe he made a special different set in Athens then or
something.
Well... damn that it was so disapointing. I hope that the
