If you're looking for an album you can pick up and get into
as an introduction, considering giving "Kind of Blue" by
Miles Davis a try. Many people consider it the jazz album
for people who dont like jazz (ie, a good starting point).
Coltrane is on it too, so you'll be getting a good dose of
him on the sax if you're curious about him.

bitches brew or kind of blue are the way to go.
squarepusher's music is rotted one note is really similar to
bitches brew in my mind.

also, if youre looking for somehting less mellow and more
upbeat, check out bela fleck & the flecktones. if you think
pusher is good at bass, just wait until you hear the amazing
grace bass solo intro to live art. unfrickinbelievable.

'A Love Supreme' by Coltrane, yes. i'd also recommend 'My
Favorite Things'.

also, if you are looking for something really upbeat, simple
and easy, you simply can't go wrong with 'Headhunters' by
Herbie Hancock! :)

everything mentioned here. and some chet baker: he likes the
slow stuff, and some faster stuff. plus, he likes to
collaboborate with a bunch of people which makes for good
listening. i just put it on now, nothing too intense, makes
you feel good and alive. its like listening to squarepusher.

try the track chet baker & stan getz - the way you look
tonight. this is some really easy listening up beat jazz.

something that sounds pretty much the same but in a
different league. try the album "mingues ah um" from charles
mingus. i download this from virginpusher on soulseek, its a
very upbeat and a very fun album. it also has these really
slow jams which are very relaxing in a "jazzy" way.
something that makes this different from the chet baker
stuff is that the saxophone and main instruments are very
much pronounced, where with chet baker its hardly noticeable
but if you take it away, the song would lack something.
