How many of them do you think wake up one day and realize that everything they've ever done is pure shit that has been manufactured for a target audience by their record label in order to produce maximum profits for their parent company?
In other words, what percentage of them did something similar to that guitarist from Limp Bizkit left the band after hearing Radiohead?

a) don't care b) actually enjoy the music they make c) convince themselves that what they're doing is an important contribution to the art world

i mean, i have more respect for the ones who actually admit to what they're doing and call it what it is - entertainment. at least they're not kidding themselves - they know they're only doing it to be rich and famous. the ones who say, you know i'm doing this music for money and i might as well be making a tv show or video games, but this is the industry i'm getting my cocaine from at the moment and i admit it.
i can appreciate someone who admits that that's their career choice rather than the assholes in these commercial bands who operate within the system that insist that their music is an important statement against the system.

fair 'nuff.
I saw this girl on TV the other day (someone from American Idol?) anyways... she was talking about how she wanted to learn to play an instrument because all she could do was sing and I almost put my foot through her slightly famous face.
They then showed her sitting between two skinny dorks in some studio and they were pointing out how to use the goddamn volume sliders on the mixer like it was supposed to make her feel all technical or some shit. I felt like helping her out by showing her the procedure in greater detail by slamming her torso into the EQ nobs, taking a dump in the back of her panties, then administering an atomic wedgie.

Sorry that was harsh. In all fairness, she could sing well, its a shame all she could do was generic uninspiring R&B that any black chick could do, really. I hate todays culture.
oh you can sing R&B just like millions of others? Heres a fat check and some skinny white guys to produce your boring tripe

i guess the question then is, why do you care? i don't care - i just don't watch those shows and i don't listen to their radio. that way it bothers me very little in my daily life. there's nothing you can do - all the complaining and contempt in the world won't change it. it's just always going to be there, so let it go.

I have tried my hand at doing "pop" songs with friends who are singers, and I must say I found it more difficult to create a sharp, catchy, well-produced pop song thant my own normal stuff. It's not difficult in a creative sense, but more because it is very strict and limited, and you can't just do what the fuck you want like you can in an experimental track of your own but you have to consider others, no matter how crap their speakers are or how stupid their musical brains are.
However much I dislike pop, I do think it takes a lot of tecnical skill to be able to make a track sound as slamming and slick as "Toxic" by Britney or whatever.

I might believe you except for the fact that I won a talent show contest with that song against other people who actually sung real pop songs that appeared on the radio. The track was even picked out by Top40 losers who said I should rap over it because it was 'tight'.
Thanks for your input though.

I don't want to be mean, but even really bad pop is better crafted than that thing you posted. If you're sat there thinking "I'm going to make a pop record" or "I'm going to make a difficult IDM track" then I think you're either in the wrong game, or you're as cravenly cynical as the "pop producers" you decry in this thread.

You guys underestimate the intelligence of the common person. They ate it up. I dont know what you guys consider 'pop' over there in your country but this song is better than most shit in the clubs here. Sorry. Sorry you have better music on your radio stations, I guess. You must feel lucky.
I know what I'm doing and it was neither "I'm going to make a pop record" or "I'm going to make a difficult IDM track". But thanks for trying.
While we're at it, why dont you post a pop track so I can learn from the 'masters'?
