this is the second night in a row i have gone to bed, only to wake up again and not be able to go to sleep. normally i cannot get to sleep until 3/4 in the morning regardless of when i go to bed, and am usually fucked the next day.
now i'm wide awake and pissed off. i want a cigarette now, and i'm getting hungry again.
anyone else have sleep problems?
how do you get a decent nights sleep?

i'm not sure if i have insomnia exactly, but i haven't gotten to bed before 3 in a few weeks now. every night i avoid going to bed as long as possible. i've been playing counter-strike: source quite a bit, as well as watching shit movies on tv. a few times i've tried going to sleep earlier, but i just lay there bored.
every day i feel like shit though, really tired and can't think very well. my theory is i stay up late so that i will be so tired during the day that it will seem to pass more quickly.
sometimes listening to really ambient music helps, like SAWII or something by the orb.
cigarettes are probably not going to help you get to sleep though. :)
if anyone else has any tips on getting to sleep i'm all ears.

i used to be good at falling asleep to music but i seem to be getting worse, i tried listening to william orbits 'pieces in a modern style' yesterday and i was still awake when it finished. (still nice to listen to though). a fag won't help but i'm craving a bit for one as i'm pissed off

hints - when you plan to go to bed, smoke your last cigarette 1 hour before you go to bed & don't drink any caffeine 4 hours before you go to bed

good tips. also, don't forget that lots of different teas have caffeine in them... i actually tried drinking green tea a few times to help me go to sleep, but then i realized it had caffeine in it.
also, sometimes i find having a beer helps a bit.

tea isn't too bad but still you should avoid any caffiene 4-5 hours before trying to sleep; chocolate, tea, coffee, etc. also, anything sugary etc. just common sense really.

i can get to sleep within 90 minutes nowadays which i find acceptable considering. i listen to comedy shows on my mp3 player and / or suitable music.

i usually nod off about 3/4 a.m, i'm always up late as i work evenings, but somedays regardless of how tired i am, it can take 2/3 hours to fall asleep.
i'm rarely up before about 3pm, sometimes as late as 5/6 pm.

it works a treat. any comedy shows from the radio. most shows on the radio are 30 minutes, so 2 in a row can sometimes do it. usually i mix and match, so 2 different types of shows and then i know if i don't fall asleep then i know there's some nice music coming after. recommended.

my sleeping is strange. i get a lot of intense, vivid dreams/nightmares.. which lessen the quality of my sleep. but i do tend to sleep for 9-11 hours a night.
it's always been like that since i was very young.. uh.

I have a perfect sleeping schedule. In bed at 11:00pm every night, and up at 7:45 every morning.
I feel as shitty as I did in the period of my life where I was getting very little sleep.

I used to be a lot worse than i am now for stupid sleep patterns, 48 hours awake and then 18 asleep etc... now i just kind of realize it's 5-6am or something and go "oh, bed".
It sounds obvious, but don't go to bed unless you're really knackered, you'll just lie there thinking about how shit your insomnia is otherwise. And yeah, the caffeine reduction thing is a good idea a few hours beforehand. Oddly enough though, chainsmoking until the early hours seems to actually help me to drift off.

my sleeping pattern has always been fucked. allllwaaaays.
every 14 months or so I suddenly will sleep really regularly for about a week. and then it's all shit again!
I've given up thinking it'll ever really change - if I can live from writing, it shouldn't be that big a problem.

Insomnia can be a sign of serious clinical depression. That and lack of appetite. Which I have suffered w/ for the last month. Last week I couldn't stop pacing. I have boils on my feet from it. Worst time of my life.
