why hello,

i've recently come back to one of my favourite electronic
albums, orbital: in sides. i'd sort of forgotten about it,
and hadn't listened to it for ages.

it is awesome.

i'm wondering if anyone can recommend an artist or album
that is similar to 'in sides'. specifically:

- electronic
- musical, with notes and melodies and everything!
- emotional, slightly dark
- no vst plugins or fx
- 100 <= bpm <= 140
- long tracks that aren't boring
- entire album flows together and can be listened to without
reaching for the skip button.. no filler

wow, i'm a demanding little bugger aren't i?

recommendations, please.

thanks,
james

i never go there. i'm actually kind of afraid of it. i don't
even want to listen to it, actually.

faithless use the buffer override vst way too much, which
violates the "no vst plugins or fx" criterion. but, other
than that it's pretty close. thanks!

why don't you want music that's been made with a vst plugin?
that seems slightly stupid and dimwitted to me.

first of all, i have nothing against plugins.

i guess what i meant was, i'd like a recommendation that
doesn't use fx like stuttering, reversing, slowing down,
pitch shifting, granular fill-in-the-blank, ... i mean, i
enjoy that sort of thing, but at this particular moment in
time i'd like to listen to something more straightforward,
like in sides.

was it really necessary to call me stupid and dimwitted?

no i guess it wasnt, but i did, but i see where you're
coming from which makes more sense, so i apologise.

i recommend leftfield - leftism

You are indeed a demanding bugger. But I think I found
something that might be of interest to you.

I present to you: The Higher Intelligence Agency. There are
two albums to choose from, Colourform & Freefloater
both have a strong melodic content and are from the same era
of In Sides (before VST was all the rage). They meet the
other requirements quite well.

If you know those albums, then I can't think of any other
albums that is similar.

sound like a right fucking prick.
