Well that's up to the clowns that make browsers, they shouldn't keep fucking about. No-one designs a newspaper thinking "Oh god, what if someone photocopies it, reduces the size and then faxes it??????". All this bollocks pushes desingers into using something like Flash so their work looks like it should do, and geeks to do their endless reviews of technology news and their take on current events in gloriously cross browser, cross mobile/webTV/my thighs text only, ooh don't use a table it'll make you gay, piece of unlovabvle bollocks ignored by everyone else apart from their slavering haf brethren banging on about the depth of black in their reissued "Chronicles of Riddick" DVD.

Have you ever seen how Hollywood films represent the Web, it's all 3D, it's all "whisssssshh whooo" in and out and "UPDATING" and flashing and groovy and 3D. That's what people want, that's what the future demands. Not some fucking dryly laid out, oh I must argue about what's a standard font (bottom line, if you can read it, it's fine) specify my fucking margin width in case little Wanker's Puma 0.1b beta browser doesn't get it, or blind Aunt Flo can't get her dog to bark it back to her. Fuck the purists, fuck the w3c who are just upset that anyone can do web design and who want to reclaim the fucking "mysteries" of internet publishing, in fact, fuck everyone.

But can you see the site? Can you read what's on it? Of course you fucking can, just cause some spazzy beard isn't happy with the tags or hierarchical structure doesn't mean it doesn't work exactly as it should do 100% of the time. Maybe you should stop looking forward to some Standards obsessed day that'll never come, and accept what's already fucking all around you.

Yes I visited your link, what a fucking wonderful place XLT would be if we followed Dr Wankmier's "Download times rule the Web, and since most users have access speeds on the order of 28.8 kbps, Web pages can be no more than 3 KB if they are to download in one second which is the required response time for hypertext navigation." little piece of shit disguised as fatherly advice.

the magic is in his javascript, and his css.
the actual html on his site, while very elegant, pretty basic... which, i guess is another good argument for going tableless and using css to control how your page looks. if it's done right, you can use the same html, and present it in many different ways just by changing the css.

my biggest complaint with IE is microsoft's complacency in keeping it up to date.
it hasn't really been significantly updated since version 5 (1998). that's when they began bundling it with windows98, and that's when they sealed their monopoly on the browser market. since then there hasn't really been a threat to IE so there's really been no reason for MS to add new features or support for emerging standards.
since IE is how 90 some percent of the world experiences the web, the web is basically built to work in IE.. since IE presents us with a 7 year old version of web standards, we are all looking at the beauty of 7 year old pages.
firefox has come on strong, and presented MS with their first real competition since they trounced netscape in the late 90's... which is why we are seeing a new version of IE coming this year even though MS had repeatedly stated that they would not make a new version of longhorn before they release their next operating system.
that is why using firefox has been (and will be) good for everyone, even the people who have no idea it exists.

- tabbed browsing - extensions provide a lot of neat extras - vastly superior bookmark handling - smart keywords on bookmarks (which i cant live w/out) - themes
and, although i suppose you won't care about it much, firefox's support for css is so immeasurably superior that it is embarassing, although hardly any webpages can take advantage of that without alienating all the sad IE viewers that will see a broken page.

yes.
and that is a direct result of firefox's increased adoption. they had issued numerous statements that they wouldn't release another version of IE... until they started losing ground to firefox.

now to react a bit more mature:
- tabbed browsing I can open 10 windows in IE and it won't crash - what is the difference between this and tabbed browsing?
- extensions provide a lot of neat extras like you say : extras.
- vastly superior bookmark handling in what way vastly superior? keep in mind - I want a link that I can click on and the supposed site opens up in my window, that's all, really.
- smart keywords on bookmarks (which i cant live w/out)
I have no idea what this means - please elaborate.
- themes this, as you might've garned from my earlier reaction, I honestly don't give a shit about.
the CSS thing goes right over my head. :)

- i find tabs a much more efficient and easy to navigate method for dealing with multiple pages. plus, it doesn't clutter up you taskbar. keeps all of my web pages in my browser.. of course, if you prefer you can open up multiple firefox windows.
- some extensions are quite nice.
- the ability to search through quickly, and sort bookmarks in various ways is very handy. i never used bookmarks much, until firefox made them useful
- smart keywords allow you to bookmark almost any site's search function, and use a keyword to access it... like, i can type [gs xltronic] in the location bar, and immediately do a google search for xltronic. the same can be done with amazon, imdb, dictionary.com, etc.. it may not seem like much, but it speeds up searches on sites that you visit a lot, by not forcing you to actually go to the site before you search it.
- :-)
------ i know that's a pretty lame attempt at explaining myself, but really, use whatever browser you find to be the best.

they were introduced sometime around 0.8, i think, but they weren't mentioned.
then, i think in 0.9 they added an option in the right-click menu (if you hover the mouse over a search field and right-click, you'll see Add a Keyword For This Search.. which makes it much easier than it was before), but they still didn't really mention it anywhere prominent until 1.0.
if you start using them, i think me and you will be the only people on the planet experiencing this joy.

I really miss the days when I used to work with people that would eulogise Linux and alternative browsers whilst producing bug-ridden, useless code that served no-one. I really admire programmers that can't see the bigger picture because they're apparently so fucking clever.

you should work for microsoft.
so basically IE7 is trying to catch up with Firefox... selling tabs as a 'feature'? its new to IE but Mozilla have had them for a while now and it seems MS havent even thought of something that basic. Theyre to preoccupied with their fat fingers in every other pie..

They've thought of it, i'm sure. But, there's been no reason for them to spend time and money developing their browser, when it already controled 95% of the market. Without competition, the market stagnates.
