Gentle People (Aphex Twin Care Mix) from 26 Mixes For Cash
and The Future Sounds of Jazz Volume 8, featured as music
for an AXE Deoderant commercial.

Deoderant + Aphex Twin = good

i barely understand what you've posted... it was a remix
that aphex did and he let a company use it in a deodorant
advert? is that correct?

a couple of days ago i was watching CSI which had a track by
home video playing in it. that was then followed by a
commercial break which contained the latest BMW advert which
uses a track by vector lovers, then after the adverts there
was sum programme on about glasgow gangsters which used a
track by aphex twin and a track by amon tobin within the
first few minutes!!! it's everywhere i tell ya...bloody
everywhere!!

is this a recent commerical, or one in years past ?

when you said "hardly no one knows who is is here", do you
mean the deoderant or aphex twin

People that work in Marketing know IDM works on two levels,
for the uninitiated, it's just incidental muzak. For the
fanboy it's a signifiar of instant cool that says "Despite
my better instincts, this product must be way rad because it
uses an Aphex remix". We all lose.

i wasn't being sarcastic - i am in complete agreement with
you and that post is now added to my "Quotable Dog_Belch
Volume 13" text. sorry, i realize now that it looked like
sarcasm. i really thought you hit the nail on the head.

Well, I went and tried the deoderant. It works ok, I guess.

Doh ! :/ Well I know not everyone is so susceptible to it,
but I think these Marketing types play upon the
"recognition" aspect that "inititates" will recognise the
music and therefore, I don't know, react or something. Even
on this board some people have gone "Wow have you seen that
advert, so cool, it uses old school electro" (I will fucking
dig the thread out if neccessary) seemingly without a trace
of irony.

There's a university here that for ages used a BOC track for
its adverts, and now it's got a rock cover version that I
must tape one day if i ever have a tape recorder near the
telly.

yeah, and i've noticed the other part is definitely true -
idm and whatever this electronic-era-graphic-art (designer's
republic, etc) is called, this aesthetic, has been
subsequently co-opted into the hip mtv adverts and 18-35
marketing everywhere in the states. it's crept up in the
last five years to the height it's at now. that's my
observation, anyway. there's something strange about how
well the style fits in with the slick commercials and
stuff.

i haven't seen this aphex ad, but i think he's a hypocrite
if he did indeed give permission for the song to be used (he
might not have been even asked or perhaps the label or
original songwriter gave permission or something). i don't
think it's cool - i think it's a sell out and rather shit,
really.

I think Gentle People might hold the rights to the track
maybe?

It's used a lot. it shouldn't surprise you anymore when it's
used for music in promos and/or ads.

Nowadays there's a lot of people that know aphex and IDM in
general.
