From Q magazine:

In the 12 years since their debut, the hugely influential
Incunubula, Autechre have cut an increasingly
individualistic path with their meticulously programmed
electronica. More frentic than their last release, 2993's
Draft 7.30, much of the archly-named Untilted find them
upping the BPM and employing their fractured beats to
dislocating, often teeth-grinding effect, with little in the
way of melodic diversion. The snatches of treated crowd
noise in Pro Radii catch the listener unawares, but most is
all too predictable and ultimately finds Autechre stuck in
an experimental rut.

Autechre creates a fascinating sonic world on their ....
album release, where electronic pulses and blips are used to
create fantastic textural waves. Members Sean Booth and Rob
Brown prove they've become masters of programming
throughout, issuing a more than suitable follow-up to their
critically praised ..... release, .... (.......wasn't
considered a true follow-up by the band). Although it may be
hard to take for those uninitiated into Autechre's unique
style (it's hard to detect melodies upon first listen),
you'll discover something new with each repeated listen.
Since all the songs are cut from the same sonic cloth, the
album is best when listened to in its entirety, but the
tracks "....." "....." and "........." are definite
highlights. Although not for everyone, ...... should be
admired, since it's not comparable to anything past or
present. Uncompromisingly cutting-edge.

from actually having heard it:

at first it reminded me of older Autechre - it has a
harsher, more abrassive sound than most notably "confield"
and "draft 7.30", but on second listen I could hear how this
could have evolved from "draft" - it's not as surprising as
"confield" was at the time (well, to me at least) but it
is a different "taste" of autechre, if you will.

it still reminds me of "tri repetae" in general, but also
quite a lot of "draft" and "confield" - melodies are buried,
and although beats are very important on this record,
textures are too.

this one definately works best played really, really loud.

I don't know, I just like it a lot.

After an LP and several EPs of baffling, beat-damaged
digital concrete, Autechre was definitely due for a change.
Rob Brown and Sean Booth have never turned in a substandard
production, but 2001's cold, dispirited Confield merely
flaunted their programming prowess instead of offering music
that listeners could enjoy. Something less than a radical
reinvention, Untilted does return the duo to the more
inviting climes of past masterpieces like Tri Repetae (if
not Basscadet). The record is immediately more compelling
than Confield, with less focus on their trademarked
random-beat-making software. A few melodies, suitably obtuse
and wispy, creep in as well. Most importantly, though, the
duo has pulled away from the brink; no one ever doubted that
Autechre was at the extreme of experimental techno for its
own sake, but given a record like Untilted, listeners might
actually return for multiple listens.

saying they use "random-beat-making software" shows how much

" On Augmatic Disport, Autechre even try to out-do
Squarepusher, with drill’n’bass beats that eclipse the
300 bpm mark, but this lacks Jenkinson’s personality. I
doubt Autechre would imagine that they deserve to be
compared to anyone, but one can’t quite help comparing
inferior music to its superior contemporaries."

AHAHAH.
