Goblin is an italian prog-rock band that did music for
horror films. Think instrumental pink-floyd meets
disco+organs.

Candyman has a brilliant soundtrack by the brillliant
phillip glass

but now i'm waiting for a snide comment about his music &
how its all the same every time :)

then it's another goblin. and i'm glad about it :)
there is a guy in Russia who makes alternative versions of
speeches in films, he has started with LOTR, and remade
several flicks so far (matrixes, latest star wars...). They
are big piece of work, but all stupid, and he puts LOTS OF
RUSSIAN POPS as soundtracks, which is unbearable to watch. I
thought he has extrapolated itself into countries outside
former SU.

Gotcha. Well, this goblin you speak of should be executed
for using goblins name for his unsuitable audio work.

yeah, besides other reasons for being executed.

I forgot about philip glass...

I am glad his film music is so consistent and similar
sounding, cause it always stands out.

Scores by philip glass that I have heard worth note;
Kundun
the Hours
Candyman
the Fog of War
Koyunisquatsi

There are two more I can't remember... but they is great!!!

and the winner is...

*opens envelope*

"too fast, too furious" and "music inspired by gigli"

yes phillip glass is distinct in his style, i like it a
lot.

the ost to Goodbye lennin is very good also, by the
excellent Yann Tiersen

is soundtrack only the cd or tape or other media with full
versions of tracks used ("soundtrack available on Virgin
records"), or soundtrack is the whole sound in the film?
sound-design, speeches...

goodbye lenin soundtrack utilised at least one piano piece
from amelie, and one of the very best. (the best one, as for
me)..

i personally would say soundtrack is just the music, but
yeah in a pure sense, i guess it would mean the whole audio
track for the whole film.

i have not heard the amilee ost

oh, the original Solaris sountrack is so good!
not sure about it being 'the first electronic soundtrack',
but it definitely was the first one of this kind in Russia
:)

actually, Eduard Artemyev has been VERY prolific - he's
written music for a whole bunch of Russian movies
here's the list in English). i love his stuff... it works
just great in movies. very emotive and beautiful.

btw, he also did the soundtrack to Tarkovsky's Stalker.

here's an interview (also translated in English)
where Artemyev speaks about alot of things, including his
work with Tarkovsky.

yes i checked my tarkovsky dvd's in frustration of myself.
i'll rephrase that as "one of the first....in russia.....in
the 70's".... nice to know i have an imagination=] i wonder
what the 1st was tho? i guess forbidden planet would be
earlier....prolly loads of hokey sci fi flims.

interesting interview. have you heard any other notable
Edward Artemiev aside from his tarkovsky soundtracks?

good and everything.

>>> I wish Chris Cunningham made Neuromancer, that would
have
>>> had a superb soundtrack
there are probably good reasons why that didn't get near
happening... I don't want to sound like I'm dissing either
of them but Chris hasn't done anything for years now and
Aphex wasn't exactly known for taking direction very well -
Flex was just recycled stuff wasn't it..

ive been thinking about cannibal holocaust out of nowhere
for the first time in my life, on yesterday. about the only
time i watched it. ive got a flash in my mind of when they
spear the nipples, and when they eat brain from the head.

i think cannibal holocaust was more graphical, but blair
witch was more scary imo, more suspence, empty moments, like
walking in a dark room or something

thinking about it there are loads of sci novels that would
be good for him to do, neuromancer has more or less been
covered in mainstream culture, matrix, johnny mneumonic and
all the other tropes, Id like to see him do something like
rendezvous with rama or a Philip k dick book like three
stigmata of palmer eldritch or something like that
