12, orbital "halcyon & on & on"
a few years before that i heard something by robert miles i
think, something about a mouse walking on a kitchen floor.
techno with mousey vocals. and NO it wasn't dmx krew, it
predated them by a decade or two. still dunno what it was, i
heard it in 3rd grade.

Does New Wave count? If so, it would have been Gary Numan in
the late 70s and Human League in the early 80s.

firestarter... I guess that was in '96...

But it was shortly before Christmas 2000 that I REALLY was
exposed to it... Windowlicker!

well what started my downward spiral into electronica was my
Photek
at the time, this guy i just met was telling me about drum
and bass (and mentioned photek).. and then i was in a record
store and saw Photek: Form and Function, trusted his taste,
so i bought it
then i was going for whatever i could get my hands on...
mostly prodigy, and my sister's Underworld stuff

..hardly listen to those guys anymore though..

hahaha! that was great, Jarworski!
i guess any music with electronic elements, instruments,
whatever, would imply electronic music. well, ya kno what i
mean.
i got into NIN at about age 11 to 12, then Wipeout XL for
PS1 introduced me to guys like FSOL & Chem Bros & Photek.
then when i 1st encountered MTV's AMP, i saw Aphx for the
1st time (On), and eventually Autechre (Second Bad Vilbel).
a drastic phase in my lifetime musical experience.

like, electronic music means music that was modified or
created electronically? geez, I'd have to say since the day
i was born and i went home and the parents had abba playing.
after all, they did use electricity to make their music.

I was like, 8 or 9 when I first heard Digeridoo by Aphex
Twin. Mind you I grew up listening to lots of different
styles. And yes, I was also a Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails
fan at a young age so I kinda grew up with a shitload of
different tastes in music (some more diverse than others).

I still hate shitty nu-metal trash like Linkin Park, Papa
Roach, Bizkit and that shit. . :)

musical evolution: Country -> Rock'n'Roll ->old Soul ->
Disco ->hiphop ->heavy metal ->Rave -> House -> electro ->
Ambient -> Avant Garde -> Classical music.

Reaction to Resident Evil's post:
Open your mind by Usura was a kick-ass song. I was about 8
years old back then. I forgot to mention it earlier. Open
your mind was the first song that got me interested into
playing keyboards and stuff. Unfortunately I couldn't afford
one at that time. But now I can play the keyboards and I'm
all happy.

I heard a lot of electronic back a few years ago, never
really liked it as much.

Strangely enough, the first elec. song I liked was Actionist
Respoke by Mouse on Mars, I even saw the video on TV. I
don't like MoM that much now, though. (Odd.)

I bought Further Down the Spiral by NIN last year when I was
on my big NIN kick, and I didn't like the Aphex tracks at
first, but since I listen to entire albums, I eventually
liked it. From there I searched on Aphex Twin and found Come
to Daddy, which I liked, and later found Windowlicker,
another video I had seen years before but had no idea about.
From there I found this site and then I started getting more
and more songs.

When was the first time you heard about Aphex?

A few years ago MTV was doing some shit about music, and
they mentioned electronic from the UK, and played the CtD
part where the big guy screams at the woman (best part of
the song) and I remember thinking it was sort of scary, in a
way.

That happens to me a lot, I see a video, I am intruiged by
it, then I don't see it until years later.

I think it was a comparison of Aphex Twin and Radiohead's
''Idioteque'' that got me interested... I loved that track
on KID A, and I was in a major guitar phase at that time...
my Pink Floyd phase.

Idioteque sounded really interesting, and I wanted some more
''non-guitar'' stuff, and I heard it was a rip-off of Aphex
Twin... so there ya go.
