I just listened to this album again.

It's still stunning four years on. I'm surprised Aphex
seemed so...un-enthusdiastic about it in interviews, it's
seriously amazing quality.

The drill tracks render a lot of stuff in a similar vien
today utterly boring, with their haunting melodies and weird
buildups and structures.

I'm glad you made this thread. We need to appreciate drukqs
a lot more. It's clearly the best album ever.

It's certainly my favorite Aphex album.

The atmosphere is really powerful; I love how it blends a
very dark, emmotionally satisfying atmosphere with great
technical skills.

Drukqs is good. ICBYD is better than Drukqs. SAW 85-92 is
the best Aphex album.

(And there ends today's comparative / superlative lesson)

NO WAY!!!! ICBYD is no way nere the quality of drukqs not
even half as good as DrukQs and I dont even like drill n
bass that much. But seriously Aphex killed the whole genre
drill n bass with Drukqs. He totally murdered competition
(except maybe some Snares and Squarepusher).

After that album I thought "uh this is it, where do we go
from here, u cant make a more complex drill album".

But seriously dont get me wron but ICBYD sounds dull today,
I even played that album to some of my friends who are into
chill music, trip hop and techno and they think it sounds
dull.

Those dudes hate drill n bass but think Druks is the SHIT!!
and can see that people love even that they love it. If
Drukqs was released now it would be AMAZING (its a timeless
album).

I know a lot of the _ICBYD album is really old tracks dating
as far back as 90-91, but some of those tracks are shit.

Its a classic album but a bit overrated imo. It has 2
flawless stunning tracks tho.

1. Acrid Avid Jam Shred = Dope track a 4/5
2. The Waxen Pith Listen Listen Listen nice 4/5
3. Wax The Nip Listen Listen Listen good 3/5
4. Icct Hedral (Edit) Listen Listen Listen 4/5

11. Cow Cud Is A Twin Listen Listen 3/5

its a really strong and good album but _Drukqs have more 5
of 5 tracks imo.

drukqs blew my mind when it first came out but now it
doesn't really hold up like the other albums do. its almost
as if the gimmick is spoiled knowing when what is coming.
don't get me wrong it's an amazing album but these days its
just bleh. i wish i could go back to when i first heard it,
those were great times, i would be at work all day with
omgyja switch playing in my head waiting for the moment to
get back, spark one up and listen to it again.

i really like druqks, my mate doesn't like 'drum machine'
but it makes me laugh, i think it';s a high coo!

druqks holds for me all of the moods i have for aphex music
appart from the minimal stuff of SAW> and there is a guy who
uses a lot of the piano melodies in bbc documentaries i
think. which is nice. next to druqks i just listen to all
his other stuff but mostly i listen to druqks. i am very
pleased with it and i can't believe it's been 4 years
already.

i have just recieved his new stuff on vinyl, yet to listen
to it all through, but i find that for the cheapest of his
fans (appart from d/loading it all- which i don't favour)
it's a bit expensive as there are quite a few of them. i
hope he brings all the tracks out on cd soon.

i'm happy!

instant reply:

i only liked a couple of tracks when i first got it and it
took me four years to fully appreciate it. it's still not
'the best album ever released'. i know you're all craving
for my list of favourite tracks, so here goes:

1. petiatil cx htdui - one of my all time favourite aphex
mega super duper ultra top ten tracks. seriously.

2. nanou2 - another one of his self-indulgent piano pieces
and fucking brilliant!

3. vordhosbn - (!!!)

4. mt saint michel + saint michael's mount - nice one.

5. gwely mernans - the lost sawii track.

His whole collection of releases is an art piece. Every
album is a statement. I like drukqs, but I think it would
have been better with some more pretty break downs. Like the
girl voice in mount st. michels.

technically perfect. complex as hell and just lush.

yeah I think it's his best work. but sometimes (most

selected the best piano/acoustic/ambient tracks and left all

Care to explain why you hold that view?

I think some of it is more accomplished than anything else
he has released, and a lot of it is filler.
