Rephlex :(

Rephlex have made me sad with the Analord releases. Why
are they just shipping in stupid plastic covers? I didn't
mind too much until I received Analord 5, but I didn't not
only is the fucking plastic cut short exposing the top of
the vinyl it didn't even have the Analord sticker on it :(

hmm. did you pick it up in a store? i was just curious if
they slip it in a sealed casing? i've bought mine from
online shops so they just came in plastic sleaves...and
right into my binder. ho hum, rephlex cd's and lp's and
ep's artwork/design are always kinda basic, occasionally
they splurge...but remember its not about the packaging, its
whats on the discs that count

I haven't got the binder and the thin plastic sleeves offer
no protection at all for the disk. Either they release 10
again with the binder or I sit crying myself into a
dehydration coma.

You could always buy yourself some disco bags and/or plain
sleeves.

But yeh, rephlex is a bit shitty for non-binder owners when
it comes to the analord releases.

you paid the larger part of 40 pounds for packaging which
apparently doesn't count.

Its perfectly fine in the binder though.

The whole Analord schabang wreaks of a poorly executed
marketting scheme that was spawned by a pretty good initial
idea.

i agree.

... well, i've never seen the binders other than the pics on
the web0rnet, but i've been pleasantly surprised by the
tracks that i've heard. quite impressed even.

i just think that they aimed for a really high-browed
approach from beginning to end, and they kinda fell short in
some fairly important ways. so, what you end up with is a
rather pretentious looking binder of somewhat low quality,
and really inconsistently packaged individual peices of
vinyl. just seems somewhat half assed to me.

but, i'm almost totally talking out of my ass. i am most
likely quite wrong.

what i mean is that for such a limited run of 'collector'
quality music, the quality control could've been better.

..then again, we are music snobs, and could probably find
somthing to complain about no matter how awesome Analord
was. and, i do think it is pretty awesome.

:)

i'll shut up now.

Missed my sticker on 5 and shitty packaging which resulted
in me having to get a replacement Analord 4 due to a scratch
in transit...partially due to shitty packing on behalf of
Warp and partly because of shitty packaging by Rephlex.

They did the Analord 4 thing...3 and four arrived just in
the plastic back to back (no seperator) in what can only be
described as one peice of cardboard clumsily folded around
and held together with shitty tape, no padding or anything.

Analord 5 I purchased from Boomkat.

rephlex has NEVER been about consistency, availability, the
publication of a proper discography, even grammar or
anything like that.

That said, Analord is probably the most well thought out,
complete series they've ever done. I personally think the
inconsistency (and alternatively genius/poor graphic design)
is part of the appeal

Incidentally Analord 10 didn't come with a barcode sticker
either.

offline magness from astroblaster (Antarctica) on 2005-03-17 18:09 [#01536656]
Points: 589 Status: Lurker

Also in all probability the vast majority of the hard work
(mailings pressings etc) that goes into these releases is
being done personally by grant and richard.

Lastly the title and barcode is on the vinyl intself
so it's not like we have less to "read"

ok i'm done :)

You're right, 10 doesn't need a barcode or sticker.

People are complaining about the lack of a barcode sticker
on 5 and its right on the disc.

And rephlex never promised anything but 'further releases in
the analord series'

i got 3 and 4 from hmv and they were in worse condition than
the 1 and 2 that i got of tinternet. all cam in the measley
plastic bag thing with stickers on but thats it; skant
protection.

also i mailed rephlex through the booking enq. about anal 10
as they dont even have a link (as far as im aware) to
contact them for general stuff but no reply ever came.

Analord 5 didn't come with a sticker on the bag because the
barcode was printed on the record label - Analords 1 - 4
didn't have barcodes on the record labels hence required
stickers.

I have to agree that the packaging has been shit - I held
out buying Analord 10 due to the price and by the time I'd
decided to buy it (pretty much when 1 and 2 came out) it was
too late. I wouldn't mind so much if there was an
alternative but it seems unfair on those of us who held out
for a few weeks but have still went on to buy all the
releases. I hope Rephlex decide to re-release the binder.

The pressings have been first class though, amongst the best
quality pressings I've heard, nice, chunky and loud!

a10 came with this pathetic binder, and it was not even
packadged in this bubble envelope :( fuckin' bummer. anyway,
every other analord came in great package from boomkat in
bubble envelope. I wanna ask binder owners - how do you keep
the binder? Standing, laying or what? When it stands like a
regular vinyl record I am afraid vnyls can be damaged,
because all of this shit weight so much... any suggestions
how to keep it clean and safe? :P

i'd rather rephlex spent the money on mastering and pressing
quality vinyl rather than on packaging for analord.

i didn't get the binder either, so i'm going to put my
analords into 12" card sleeves. at the moment they're in
danger of sliding out all over the place in the plastic
sleeves.

presumably if there's a release scheduled for 9 & 11, then
10 & 12 will follow?

and then the inevitable CD release which will contain some
(but not all) of the vinyl tracks and lob in a couple of
extra CD only tracks?

no need for sticker.

it is about one of the greatest music in last 4 years. i do
not want it to be destroyed and wanna keep it safe and clean
:) so it is all about music pressed on the delicate vinyl
that costed over 150$ so far and is worth a lot more (for me
it is actually priceless). yeah - it is all about music,
mate :)
