actually i like this:
Includes CD Architect 5.2 Software Sound Forge 8 software includes a full version of CD Architect 5.2 software for comprehensive disc-at-once (DAO) CD burning. CD Architect 5.2 software includes CD Text reading and writing, and updated drive support. You can export files directly from Sound Forge to CD Architect software, and Sound Forge 8 regions are automatically imported as CD tracks for fast and efficient CD creation

I quite like audition. Having the multitrack with automation and vst support make it my editor of choice.
Soundforge does retain sound quality a bit more when editing occures, but it only reads 16 & 24 bit at 41k....
Unless that has changed recently... has it?

u clearly didn't use SF 6.0 too much...41k @ 8,16,24,32bitdepth.
btw,6.0 is where it's at...maybe the all plugin support is nice,but far from that i dunno what they can come up with,cos it's powerfull like it is now.

Well, its just safer to edit waveforms at 32 bit, and then dither it back to 16 bit when playing with levels and such. I know you really only need 24 bit, but I am kinda anal and paranoid about that shit.

why are you paranoid about 24 bit and why is it safer to edit music at 32bit?

I would use 24 bit, yes.
I have also heard from people with much better (and more professional) ears than I have, that soundforge really isn't that great for resampling bitrates anyway (so you would still lose quality when switching back to 16 bit ).

try to resample in any sample editor and you will loose the quality from 24 to 16bit. (same thing as mp3)

Well, audition allows you to edit in 8, 16, 24 and 32. Of course audio quality is lost when you dither back to 16 from 32. But what happens when you do things like filtering, normalization, cutting, compression, etc, is any sound quality that is reduced from the sample is pretty much the same ammount, in 32 and 16. so if you were looking at in numbers instead of bitrate;
minus 5 from 320. You get 315 minus 5 from 160. You get 155 But, if you dither the 315 by half, you end up with 157.5 In the end 157.5 is better than 155.
That is they way i understand it at least.
I remember once trying to open up a 32 bit file I had in soundforge, and it became this heavily distorted and crunchy version of the original. It was pretty cool, but I wouldn't want that to happen to something I really cared about.

usually when you run sound forge, it connects to the SF website and tells them information about you
if you blank their addresses in the registry, it won't do that anymore
