for me music is very personal - whenever im not alone i can
go without my music i will let whoever wants to hear there
own music play it, unless it is something truly god awful
:(, in which case i will most likely tell the person so :)

i once saw the violent femes live, they played a song which
i never heard before: it had a chorus like this:

"dont talk about my music, shut your mouth!"

i tend to agree with this statement, but i usually keep my
music to myself or else i might actually say these words

also if anyone knows this song please let me know the
original artist, as i think the femes were covering it.

it is great when you meet someone who has a similar taste in
music as you. music makes connections. i was driving in
this guys car a few months back and he was listening to
double figure from plaid. i was like 'you like plaid?',
trying not to sound too enthusiastic, he responded with
'yeah, their melodies are beauitful'. i instantly knew that
we'd get along and we did. we've been swapping music, he
introduced me to a lot of great artists (including four tet
for which i am eternally greatfull) and we're really good
friends now.

then again, i have friends who are heavily into metal(who
believe no song is complete without a good guitar solo) and
we get along great. music helps to make bonds but there are
many other things people have in common besides music.

yes, it's real nice to met people who like same music - i
haven't met many, in fact it was only a few, but this thread
wasn't really about this - i don't really mind what people
listen to..well it does irritate me a bit, but if that's
what they like then ok - but i hate to see people who think
some hot shot pop bend (who ofcourse they consider to be the
finest example of alternative) is the best music ever, to
explain me about what is good music and so on..

i find that the younger a person is, they more apt they are
to like music that tries something new - not that older
people frown on change its just that i find a younger person
is going to give something new more of a chance to makes it
statement, whereas an older person would just plain listen
to something they know they will like

for instance i still have friends that like nothing else
except pink floyd and led zeppelin or the beatles - they are
so stuck in the past, they turn away from anything new
dubbing it a rip off

i tend to seek out new music all of the time just so that i
wont become stagnant in it, its alway evolving. so its more
of an idea about music that i like other people have rather
than a tastes thing.

since when do threads actually stay on topic.

Anus_Presley: it still nice when you do though. if you
support a baseball (?) team then it's always nice to meet a
fellow supporter.

but yeah, i remember such a scene.

when i was 16 i had a new classmate. and he asked what i'd
listen to what was portishead, pram, gang starr, pink floyd,
afx, radiohead etc at that time. and he was like: i dont
know this bands, you really have a bad taste in music, i
mean, consider, how many people do you think listen to the
same music as you? not many, right? come on, ADMIT IT, you
have a bad taste in music.

and he was REALLY SERIOUS. he wanted me to admit that i
have a bad taste in music and he really meant it, he went on
for days. the crazy thing was that he really believed that
if you listen to mainstream you have the right taste in
music and if not you dont have. that was a bit retarded.

when i was 7, these kids were picking on me(probably because
i was the new foreign guy). i told my dad and he said i
should stand up for myself. so one day this guy was being a
dick and i stuck a pencil into his bum. the lead broke off
and he got lead poisoning. my parents proceded to take me
out of the school and put me in another one. the teachers
weren't too happy.

I generally hate when people think they know about stuff
they don't and talk about it.
