What is FLAC?

"FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. Grossly
oversimplified, FLAC is similar to MP3, but lossless,
meaning that audio is compressed in FLAC without any loss in
quality. This is similar to how Zip works, except with FLAC
you will get much better compression because it is designed
specifically for audio, and you can play back compressed
FLAC files in your favorite player just like you would an
MP3 file"

The reason why I've made this topic, is because I found
Analogue Bubblebath 5 in FLAC format! It's like listening to
AB5 for the first time....the sound quality was fantastic,
the snares were crisp as fuck and I could hear " new" sounds
that were muffled all to hell in the 128 mp3 rip's. Because
of FLAC, I've come to the conclusion that AB5 is a excellent
piece of work.

I've got Analord 3, 4 and 10 as FLAC as well...same thing
there, excellent audio quality regardless of everyone's
opinions of the music.

It sounds good but it takes a shitload more space for it and
if I wanted that sounds quality I'd stick with my CDs. Until
they've developed 1TB 1" drives they're just a waste of
space :)

true. but for me (being without a vinyl player and a copy of
AB5) it's the only and best alternative.

Yeah, FLAC is what I use when I get a new CD - I make an mp3
copy for my portable and then convert the wavs into FLAC for
listening on my home system. It's probably overkill for some
music but I notice a difference with Tim Hecker for example.
Remember, it's lossless.™

flac's are fantastic - much better than mp3's by far. i've
got quite an impressive collection of rare concerts and
stuff in flac. they just sound so much better that it's
worth the extra space.
