The guy who lent it to me has been giving me some rubbish
recently so I was shocked, more so that I hadn't heard of
them before now.

Most people hate them. I can't understand why; after my
third or fourth time through the record it all became
totally natural. My advise for new listeners is to think of
it as a musical - this helps deal with all of the starts and
stops and gear switching that occures throughout the course
of a song. However, after one gets used to it, that approach
can be tossed and one can simple enjoy it as an amazing
record. Totally unique. Makes ME happy at least.
