how did you come to hear aphex twin?

my first aphex experience came in the autumn of 1993 when i
first heard selected ambient works volume and universal
indicator - SAWII just blew me away - i was only 17, had
started smoking hash more, was about to take my first LSD
trip, and when i look back at that time, it was fucking ace,
and aphex twin provided the soundtrack.

about 5 years ago when i saw On, but i wasn't all that
impressed, but i was further promoted an Aphex fan when i
saw Come to Daddy on another daytime show on MTV.

player.......everyone should do bass - its the best!!)...and
the guys have a really REALLY broad music taste and they've
introduced me into loadsa new music including electronic
music which for years i never appreciated cos i had only
heard "boom boom boom" ned music, lol. So now im pretty

I'd heard the name Aphex Twin bandied about since 1991...
then about 93 some friends got some stuff and I got to hear
some, think it was 'On'... then 'Daddy', some
eps(vent..rhubarb...boygirl...licker) and left him till
'Druqks' and rediscovered things I missed...

Windowlicker, because of something Thom said...

And obviously, fell in love with Richie on the spot, sigh...

I'm having this conversation with "Jedi Chris" on MSM at the
mo, here's a transcript!

Ceri JC says:
I came in from a club at about 4am a few years ago and "Come
to Daddy" was on MTV|2. My friend knew who it was and that's
how I knew the name of it.
Ceri JC says:
I forgot about it (but I thought it was a good video). About
a year later one of my friends bought the video and a couple
of the more accessible releases. I heard them and bought
copies myself.
Chris says:
...and did you think . . "Hmmmm thats the weirdest thing
I've seen - I gotta get me some more of that!!!"
Ceri JC says:
I then bought other stuff and liked it so much that I just
bought anything new by him in Spillers
Chris says:
...you beat me to that answer...
Chris says:
I see!
Ceri JC says:
I then ordered all available stuff I didn't have from the
record label website and pre-order all his new stuff (get
leaked mp3's from the AT site community).
Chris says:
That's a fair enough answer to my question! I hope you
didn't mind me asking. It's just, that I don't think it is
for me! As I mentioned before to you I did like some of the
tracks on the early cd....
Ceri JC says:
Only one of my mates likes it (and him not as much as me,
but he really likes 'Drukqs') and one of my brother's mates
likes "Come to Daddy". My brother likes some of the more
relaxed stuff like "Alberto Balsam". Some of my flat mates
also like *some* tracks and have Mp3'd them from me

I've been hooked ever since.

mentioned aphex twin too... this guy recommended
windowlicker (which was like the only track he'd heard from
afx)
then of course, i was hooked

My brother played alberto balsalm all day long on repeat
about 6 years ago, one year after that I was whistling it
out of the blue. One year after that I asked him what it
was. One year after that I typed "Aphex Twin" into a search
engine...and that was the beginning of the end.

well, i had heard the aphex remixes of nine inch nails' work
on further down the spiral many years ago, but didn't think
much of it at the time. indeed, i liked it, but not more
than that. this past summer, a co-worker named steve loaned
me i care because you do. i ripped the disc immediately and
was amazed. since then i have aquired a few discs (RDJ
album, C.T.Daddy, drukqs, windowlicker, and i just got
polygon window surfing today). I will eventually get
I.C.B.Y.D, too. I think Aphex Twin is a pure genius who
creates intensely dense and beautiful music. I am very very
happy to have discovred this artist. And besides his genius
music, I love his hilarious interviews. joey

91-92...it's all a bit of a blur...used to hear ABB1 & Didge
at raves and parties..Me mate made me a tape of various
tracks that I thought were by diff people....turned out they
were all by AT... (Wish I still had that tape as I'm sure
there were some tracks on there I still haven't heard
anywhere else...)...

And listening to late night Colin Dale/Colin Favour on KISS
FM... Outer Limits...

Then I saw the CD single of Didge and the rest is history...

i found this compilation tape that my brother's mate had
made, oh, way back in er '98. that had 4 and
girl/boy song from the RDJ album. i really love the
sort of childish sounds on that album. coupled with the
insane drums.

strange, cos those are my fave two aphex songs i think (and
the RDJ album is my fave idm album of all time). i've got
most of afx's back catalogue now, and nothing quite matches
them.

i downloaded the beauty of being numb and at the heart of it
all off further down the spiral, as i love nin... then i
discovered that it was by aphex twin or aphex twin & nin,
and i was like "aphex twin? yay, i like this name! sounds
cool, i'm gonna download some more and check some
websites!"

then i downloaded some tracks, bought drukQs, started to
lurk around this mb (i'm lurking here since... i don't know,
it was still v4... i only started to post some weeks... or
months? ago), then bought other albums, etc... :)

in 2001 my friend kept on talking about this..........aphex
twin? and squarepusher? so finally i went and downloaded
vordhosbn and basicly fell in love with electronic music.
but really i've been listening to electronic music since i
was like 10 and i was listening to stuff like "Chemical
Brothers", "Fat Boy Slim" and "Christal Method". so really
i've been into electronic music for quite some time i just
didn't discover aphex until a little while ago.
