that song has been used in many movies and commercials

did you see how his Area : One logo resembled AFX's?

i liked his stuff from the early 90s - it had a kind of
naive charm about it, much like early prodigy... his album
PLAY sucks rhubarb donkey dick

Rhubarb Donkey Dick! LOL!

Yes, I saw that logo, I actually have a shirt with it that I
got at the Area:One show in Denver. It was a great concert,
the only real letdown being the final set (Moby himself).

Outkast and The Roots both put on fantastic shows.

I went to see him a while ago at Spirit Fest in Kansas City.
He sucked crap, but at that show i was introduced to the
boom boom satellites who opened for him. They are a couple
of talented japenease men.

even though i can agree slightly that moby isnt on the same
creative level as others. i always find it really funny
when a bunch of people who have nothing better to do than
post on a message board all day everyday can say a man
making lots of money at his art sucks at what he does. the
best way to state something sucks is to do something better.
sorta like blowing a ship out of the water as apposed to
simply flipping the crew off.

well, i bought play a long ass time ago when it came out.
thought it was half-way decent and liked it for a bit. but
after awhile the sound wears too thin and makes you feel
nauseated.

i hate moby
first of all his music sucks for all the reasons u guys
already stated (im not going to go throught them all again)

PLUS his stupid little attitude:
he tries SO hard to have the
"innocent-unoccrupted-honest-modest-little-boy" thing that
its quite pathetic really, watching him in interviews.

he is so damn proud of how modest he is its funny

The thing about Moby's music that I don't like is the way it
sounds when you listen to it.

that is a bit of stretch to say that moby is trying to rip
off the aphex logo. the logo does sorta look designers
republicish from mid 90s. the world does not revolve around
aphex you know.

moby, like RDJ, has spread a lot of disinfo and b.s. about
himself, but RDJ seems a lot more playful.

His old stuff {which most people havent heard} is pretty ..
decent... er... OK I guess. His new stuff bores the hell out
of me.

offline TrevorGod from Toronto (Canada) on 2002-02-10 15:01 [#00084513]
Points: 894 Status: Regular

I agree. His older stuff isn't quite as irritating and
boring as his new stuff. He seems more concerned with
making music he can licence to movies and such than actually
making music. I saw an interview with him bitching about
how nobody listend to 'play' until he got the songs heard in
commercials. Unfortunaly he had licenced every single song
to at least one company even before the album was realeased.

yeah but one can make music and not sell it to a commercial

offline Ubik from United States on 2002-02-10 18:42 [#00084603]
Points: 662 Status: Lurker

what is wrong with making some money from what you do? if
you do a job, you are selling your services? we are all
whores. its easy to say someone is a sellout when you have
nothing to sell yourself.

but now, you cant listen to Play without thinking of
commercials. and those dead old blacks sampled on Play
don't get a dime. maybe Moby can buy them some really nice
flowers to place around their graves, if he even knows who
he sampled. Aphex has rarely has sold plenty of stuff too,
and if he was not so difficult to work with, he probably
would have had lots of other chances to make some money
licensing his music. does that him smart or stupid?

offline Zombiekev from Ardmore (United States) on 2002-02-10 19:38 [#00084625]
Points: 2857 Status: Lurker

yeah but he has discarded his music to the media. they can
bastardize it and put it in whatever they feel like.

they could put his music to gay porn if they wanted to, and
he couldn't say shit.

i think moby is pretty good actually

everyone seems to hate the man,and not his music so much

and of course, ive known groups like this to shun any
commercially popular music

feeling so real is a great rave song too phresch :)

has been used in a billion ads and commercials? I was
surprised by how many people here don't like him....

i don't like PLAY because i think the tracks suck - i don't
like moby because he is a corporate whore.

i agree with UBIK (from philip k dick?) that anyone who
earns money is basically whoring their time, and that is why
i am planning the revolution with a couple of good buddies
;)

isn't there a COMPAQ commercial featuring the music of
richard D james?
