it's very violent and quite graphic - so I have heard/read.

which is a reason why I have no inclination to ever watch
it.

thought it was a bit weak really.

monica beluci is HOT though in that dress

I downloaded the uncut version. I have yet to watch. Maybe I
should. I just don't fancy watching Anal Rape alone. It
would feel strange.

24 minutes,,thats's way before the rape scene...when i saw
this in a cinema a few people left during that first couple
of scenes, but when the rape scene came up half of people
left..personally i didn't find it that disturbing to be
honest..it's fiction for god's sake!!

not as awful as that fire extinguisher scene. i dont know, i
saw baise moi a long time ago. maybe i dont have tolerence
for this sort of thing anymore. which is a good thing i'd
say.
i cant stomach hyper realism.

Irreversible is told as a chain-reaction. It has nothing to
do with "realism". It is very good fiction, tho'. Rape scene
is very intense, true, but it had to be like that, do not
you think?

offline trentee from Berlin (Germany) on 2005-02-18 16:41 [#01503869]

oh and by the way, if you want to see "realism" in cinema, u
shoul go and see "the bicycle thieves"(1949) by Vittorio de
Sica :) But "Irreversible" is mostly inspired by "french new
wave" of 60's I think. Gaspar Noe found very unique way to
build a modern story about urban, cold people.

What an utter pile of shit that film was, belluci can't act
and i hate cassel.. dupontel is great though..... very poor
photography to top that...argh i hate it....
the tenia didn't die, she was pregnant, blah blah blah, it
was backwards, so fucking what? it was crap. intense rape
scene? yawn . very poor photography to top that...argh i
hate it....
the extinguisher scene was quite shocking and realistic,
it's about the only thing it think was well done about that
film.

"a unique way to build a modern story about urban, cold
people"

BOLLOCKS.

Yeah, i found the fire extinguisher scene harder to watch
than the rape scene... partly because it comes first, partly
because the camera work makes me nauseous, partly because
the soundtrack (Thomas Bangalter, no less) heightens the
sense of dizziness...

it's an okay film, i guess... but it's way to abrasive for
my tastes, and i thought the camerawork was a bit gimmicky
(and at times highly unpleasant)... i really dug some of the
scenes at the party though (also partly because of the
soundtrack)...

i'm not sure if it's really new wavey though... it seems
more like a reaction to it (although, it does share a
certain realist vibe with the New Wave)... it's pretty
expressionistic... maybe a cross between expressionism,
fellini, and old french avant garde stuff... all of which
are all cool things in and of themselves.

i just felt like the whole things was way too severe
though...

wtf?

define "poor photography"? I think "irreversible" is shot in
a very original way. Man! 16mm/mastershot(one take
shot)/cinemascope/ without lighting!

What more do you need?

you know, just because we differ on one film, it doesn't

common thing.

just don't jump into conclusions about me.

For me it is more like coming out from the labirynth, u
know. In the center (RECTUM) - you suppose to meet Minotaur,
right? The Real You. And in the end of the film and during
the story, everything calms down and lighten up. I really
like the idea of labirynth, the spiral. Of course it is not
as sophisticated as in Lynch's movies, but still...

Haha you give Noe more credit than i think he deserves ...
i have loved and dissected all of lynch's movies for
example, but for me irreversible has nothing under the
covers, it's all blatant, obvious and yet it wants to be
highbrow or what have you.

you got got:
The first 30 minutes of the film has a background noise
with a frequency of 28Hz (low frequency, almost inaudible),
similar to the noise produced by an earthquake. In humans,
it causes nausea, sickness and vertigo. It was the main
cause of people walking out of the theaters during the first
part of the film in places like Cannes and San Sebastian. In
fact, it was added with the purpose of getting this
reaction.
