immediately ran to the video store and returned it. and now

I own this movie. Its intense, but quite well done.

The scene in the beginning with the head being smashed looks
seamless, but its was actually filmed about 6 or 7 times,
once with the actor pretending to have his head smashed with
a styrophone extinguisher, once with a styrophome dummy,
once with a ceramic dummy with a bunch of stuff in the head
area, and a bunch times without a dummy. It was all spliced
together and cropped, to make it appear as realistic as
possible. And it succeeded with the realism. The amount of
technical special effect work done in that film is
impressive, seeing as it doesn't look CGI'ed

Shitting hell, I rented this without knowing what the hell
it was.

Thought I'd watch a nice arty foreign film before partying
tonight. All I can say is

SHIT

Jesus, I do plan to watch it all, but only got 25 mins into
the film. It is so disturbing and violent that I think I
will be severely affected for a good while after seeing it,
and so don't want to be in that state of mind for new year's
celebrations.

The extiguisher scene is the most disturbing thing I've ever
witnessed.

I don't blame Gwely for his reaction at all, although my
peverse curiosity makes me want to see the rest.

LOL, saw people recommending it and assumed it was an arty
French cross between Amelie and Memento! Shit! :D

upset, it's just entertainment. Ichi the Killer is fucking

i saw this movie after alot of people said they had puked
and shit their pants and gone mad and everything, and in
that aspect i was totally dissapointed. it WAS a great movie
though and i've seen it twice, but not because of the
violence but because i loved the long scenes and how good
they were at pulling them off.

yeah that scene with the extinguisher was cleverly edited,
but was it so different from any other violent movie.

also, monica belucci is the directors wife, and everybody
involved are good friends. this probably made the long rape
scene possible, and a good addition to the film for that
matter.

But this isnt meant to be entertaining though... that's
Tarantino violence. This is made to be a realistic depiction
and it such I can't laugh at it like I would Tarantino. But
I guess, if I had an idea of the content before I watched
it, my reaction would be much less shocked. Showed a bit of
the gay club place to my mom, she was suitably disturbed
(something about gay sadomasochism that seems more violent,
i think)

I saw the movie in a jam-packed cinema. Half of the people
left after 25 minutes... It just wasn't made for them, or
perhaps they just weren't ready for it. Anyway it's GASPAR
NOÉ, what did the expect? He's the director with a shock
value level rarely achieved in the history of cinema.

I still think that the opening of the movie in the gay bar
until the extinguisher death is probably one of the most
effective scene EVER. It does everything it is made for,
perfectly. Everthing the director wanted to achieve, he has
achieved it. What more can you want? Ever saw a movie that
has the first 15 minutes more intense than this one? It's
nauseatous, it makes you dizzy, his
camera/editing/cinematography/sound editing is incredible,
it shocks you, it's what the director wanted, it's his
visions, we can't deny it it's his film his 24 frames per
seconds. Not ours.

The rape scene didn't do much for me, because everybody knew
about it, we all knew it would happen. NOT the death scene.
It's shocking, I mean you just have your mouth open and go
"OH MY FUCKING GOD" in your head.

i thought it was quite an experience, and largely agree with
ymenard. except for the rape-scene. although you know it is
going to happen it is still horiffic to see the
powerfullness of a woman under those circumstances. in that
sense it made just a big impression as the openingscene at
the gay bar.

and it's pretty sick to think that's funny....but hey,
whatever floats your boat

I fucking hated it, lame excuse of a movie. it has nothing
for it. it's just a movie about a rape scene. wich is pretty
disgusting really. It would be better if the movie went
forwards, bad gimmick, really. Stupid movie, and i even hate
it more because all the people saying it's excellent and
deep and whatnot. it sucks.

i've downloaded this

i shall watch it in about 10 minutes.

OK: the media frenzy and all hype surrounding the movie is
about a rape scene. the movie isn't all about a rape scene.
rethink your approach to watching a movie.

it seems as if you heard all the hype, watched the movie
for its rape scene
, came away disgusted (naturally), saw
no other merit in the movie and therefore didn't like it.

It is genius, for sure. I can't fathom how they physically
managed it.

Finished watching it - I found the rape scene much less
shocking than the murder scene, although equally as
unsettling. In hindsight, its kind of like Requiem for a

I'd be interested in seeing some of this guy's other ones.
