it'd be cool if it was as easy to build your own laptop as
it was to build a desktop, but as far as i can tell, it
isn't.

Oh, and I'd get a laptop with a Pentium M chip.

Because the Pentium M is supposed to be a better/more
efficient chip. I don't really know specs though.

i did a lot of research before buying my toshiba. mostly i
compared Toshiba m45 vs. the Sony Vaio and Dell Laptops.

Of those three, I found Dell to be well reviewed, Toshiba as
well and Vaio almost as well. I heard the Vaio was more
noisy, it is also more pricey.

Ultimately I went with the Toshiba M45 because it was about
200 dollars cheaper than the Vaio, and Dell does not offer
the Centrino chip with higher than a 433mhz frontside bus.
Toshiba uses newer chips and actually, for the money, you
get more Bang for your Buck compared to a customizable
Dell.

but yeah i'll review my new machine later this week when it
gets here!

so i got my new laptop last week and now i'm laying in bed
posting via wireless internet access while watching pee
wee's big adventure in th ebackground. So far, i am totally
satisfied with this new toy. a techinogical marvel indeed
with a huge display and a wicked fast cpu. My tracks in
Ableton LIve that used to run my old processor up to 60 to
70 percent now only push the green bar up to 15 percent or
less. no hanging, crashing, or spontaneous restarting. i
can even run dual monitors for added workspace.

so, in summary, the Toshiba m45+s331 is thus far proving to
fully live up to my expectations. and it is worty of
consideration if you are still looking for tremendous
portable computing power at a very fair price!LAZY_TITLE

Get an IBM Thinkpad. The build quality is excellent. If
you're thinking of moving your laptop around, this is really
important.

Never buy a cheap, shitty laptop. The plastics will quickly
crack and break. Better to get a slightly older, second hand
Thinkpad than some fly-by-night product.

i like my 860 as a pda, thanks. pdaxrom is neat, especially
quake @ 30fps (woo!), but it fucking sucks for a pda.
