I haven't been on this board since last September, but I used to be a daily face (under a different name or two). I just wondered what everybody had thought of Drukqs......... I was a bit let down meself, seemed like a load of half-ideas to me. Which wouldn't be so bad, but the fucker cost me £25......

I tell you what I'll put it on now and give it another go.. Let me just get the big stupid box out...
Don't get me wrong, an average AFX Lp is still way above most other releases, but I thought it could've been an ace 45 min LP rather than an okay 120 min LP. A bit like Wu-Tang Forever. Sort of.

wu-tang forever is their best, what exactly is wrong with that album? it was made in 1997, i don't understand why people expected them to sound like it was 1993.

I wasn't too impressed about some of the piano pieces but the rest of the album was great. It's got lots of cool musical layers and FX that you can't hear unless you listen to it very closely.

yeah like that guy said: there's a lot of filler. a lot of the piano tracks aren't really that special and that song after st michael is so disappointing... and out of context.
but some of my favourite aphex tracks are on drukqs. didn't need to be a double album, tho.

because wu-tang are a group of brilliant individuals?
sonically and lyrically wu-tang forever is a superior album. 36 chambers is good in that departure, and it's a more "fun" album, but forever is what makes them brilliant.
"supreme clientele" is a great, great album, too.

I think some of the tracks could have been chopped off... cram into a single disc, 78 minutes or however many you can fit on there, and it would be perfect, IMO.

But it doesnt. It doesnt have his old stuff on there... none of it is like his old stuff, so for me its like a journey through pure garbage! Although I give it more credit than I did before I Still think its one of his worst albums and I was very dissapointed with it.

i get the journey thing... and i don't think any of it could be chopped off. it is exactly how it should be. when i first heard it i really liked a lot of it but thought it was too long i wasn't feeling every track. after hearing so many times i'm still getting tons out of it that i never picked up on and more and more tracks seem to glow. i was very much a nonbeliever that this album would be a 'grower' as everyone has been saying, but it keeps getting better.

if you want just one cd then do it so... but I cant agree with you, not this time ophecks, why is it necessary to eliminate any tracks, try to see it like a whole one music element, with no partitions... its a trip throgh every different mood and feeling... from violence to love, from desire to dreams... its a universal music masterpiece... it is not a pop album so dont judge as if it was

Well, it's just a personal preference... I hate a few tracks, but there's about exactly ONE full CD worth of BRILLIANT stuff, which is almost impossible for other artists to do. A whole 80 minutes of great stuff, no filler, that's an achievement.
Lornaderek, Gwarek2, a few others, I think he could have left off. But it's fine the way it is, noone's perfect. I think I, personally, would rather a single disc.

I think that because Drukqs covers so many styles, you're gonna get more people dissing it... like die-hard APhex Twin fans, who like all his styles are gonna love it, but the fans who only like say ICBYD, or SAWII or something probably won't like it all... it's so diverse... and I personally like that, but I guess that's what throws other people off...
another thing, personally I think Drukqs was the next logical thing for him to do... people say it's not totally unique and groundbreaking, but it's definately a step up in complexity and stuff from RDJ album and Come to Daddy... and so, according to the logic of say Autechre, Drukqs was definately the next logical thing... but Aphex Twin constantly jumps from style to style, and so I guess him simply getting deeper into one style probably wasn't expected, hence the bad reviews and such...

i think this album is great...i already said something like this before, but it is so diverse, and it is like a journey, with so many different elements to it that make it a whole. i dont think you should cut any of it out. my music is quite similar...no two tracks are the same, and the varying styles i use make some of my discs hard to listen to at once. its easy for me cuz i wrote them, but i dont know about others...
