I've been to a LAZY_GIGER_EXHIBITION and would strongly recommend
it to anyone in the Paris area. His work is sooo much more
impressive 'in the flesh'! A lot of the amazing translusency
effects are lost when photographed.

I wish I'd known this was on sooner. I could've gone to
Paris for the day to see this. I've love it. Shame. Did you
get some pictures TonyFish?

They're all there on the site (1 &
2). By the way, the exhibition has been
extended until the 6th of March so there's still time.
Definately worth making a priority given that it's the
"largest exhibition
of the artist's work to ever take place outside of
Switzerland".

Actually I'm pissed I didn't find out about it earlier as he
was there on the first day signing stuff :(

I always found his work a little bland and cheesy overall.
Although I appreciate the atmosphere he puts in his pieces
it never quite overcomes the fact that it's a pointy
breasted woman with snakes crawling out of her eyes... I
don't take much from it, he's probably much better suited to
making film sets and the like.

besides his other work, he deserves every accolade in the
world just for designing the original Alien.

Trust me it's really much better 'in the flesh'. Much of his
highlighting and translucency which make the works
interesting from a technical point of view aren't apparent
on photos (that or his work is always badly photographed
which I doubt). When I showed my girlfriend some photos she
had almost exactly the same reaction as you but she came of
the exhibition enthralled.

the only thing that irks me is that microphone stand he made
for Korn. this his all to do with Korn and not so much the
microphone stand itself.

qrter: It's just an adaptation of one of his sculptures
really. He just sliced the top of her hair off and added the
microphone so it wasn't exactly made 'for' Korn.

-crazone: The exhibition had all his major works including a
few of the creature prop designed for alien. You could even
see the wire supports on the alien head for the chopped-up
condoms which were used to model the 'lips'. The original
alien statue wasn't there but I was fortunate enough to see
it auctioned at Christies when I was living in london. Check
the pics.

Technically it is impressive, and I probably would enjoy an
exhibition. Its just that rarely do I see anything
particularly 'artistic' from him. The best result is the
general cold or brooding flavour he makes, which is why I
think stuff like the Alien pieces are what he's made for.

black light.

i saw the taschen Giger book the other day for cheap, might
have to get that.

I've always liked the Dune tank he designed, did he do many
more designs for Dune?

He did the harkonnen chairs and table for Dune. It's such a
shame that the first version of Dune was abandonned. It had
fucking Salvador Dali in it for christ's sake!!
