Recommend me: happy guitar music

offline manicminer from Paris (France) on 2005-01-30 11:19 [#01481902]

Can anyone recommend me some non-cheesey but happy guitar
music?

Although my favourite band are the Smiths, it's winter and I
need something uplifting. Been listening to a lot of
electronic music, but feel the need for some guitar music.
Yet I need it to raise my spirits.

Recommendations?

you could try Notwist's last album "golden neon" - not all
of it is happy, but it does have an uplifting quality. it's
a pretty summery album, if you will.

they also use a lot of electronica in their music and not
just as a gimmick, but as a real instrument.

any Pixies album should do too, by the way.

especially "come on pilgrim/surfer rosa".

i recommend:

nice day by his name is alive
elephant stone (7" version) by stone roses
venus by the wedding present
there goes my hero by foo fighters
language of flowers by pale saints
drop by cornelius
island in the sun by weezer
rain by the beatles

or you could put ask by the smiths on repeat play...

grandaddy are ok, the software slump is quite good. i prefer
the kingsbury manx, same kind of stuff more chilled out.

I love the smiths, the only reason I wish i could go back to
the 80s is to see them play live.

it's too bad morrissey and johnny marr split up on such bad
terms... or maybe a reunion show might be a possibility :(

The Lucksmiths- Why that Doesn't Surprise Me

Very bouncy and life affirming but in that bittersweet way.
Man I love these guys, those guitars twang and jangle to
perfection. Very fruity though.

März - Wir sind hier

Even the parts in German are gaggingly uplifting. Good
album.

Mercury Rev - The secret migration

Yes a happy album by Mercury rev. Nothing complex or
intricate, just jolly music. Almost feelgood. If you're
lucky you can still pick up the beautifully packaged limited
edition.

Athlete's first album is very cheerful, I quite enjoy it.

40 Feet by Franz Ferdinand is good too.

some uplifting guitar songs I think are very good:

ride - seagull
ride - unfamiliar
lush - sweetness and light

other than that you could always try MAROON 5 or
something...

exactly mate. one of the best
noisy-guitar-coming-in-the-right-moments album. and lots
more than that.

the latest full album is awesome too, it's hard to describe
it in a few words....since i'm listening to it now for the
first time. great work.

I always recommend the same band in every thread but
Loveless by My Bloody Valentine is very uplifitng and
brilliant.

Also I find good old rock n roll puts me in a good mood.
Theres a pretty cool compilation called Rock & Roll 1
compiled by the rough trade guys which is great, proper
awesome stuff from the 60s onwards, Iggy to the mighty Fall,
MC5 Pixes Rocket from the Crypt Joe Mascis...

i really prefer Isn't Anything....i don't know it if it's
better than Loveless, cause i got to know the former a long
time ago and it's kinda sentimental
thing.....but....MBValentine are one of the best bands ever
anyways.

Yep they are one of the best, and its not an exaggeration.
Which is amazing considering they only had 2 'proper'
albums

There's a couple o tracks on Isnt Anything that are a quite
sad though, wheras Loveless seems to be more optomistic.

They did so much stuff post-Loveless and you know it would
blow everything away but god knows when we'll hear it
