Will be deleted and you will face a ban. It's up to you
whether it's worth it or not.

I encourage all moderators to do their jobs and keep the mb
clean from this shit.

every time you listen to music without an artists' consent,
another artist drops down dead.

probably not. but this site might pay a high price for
providing links to illegal material. it's quite obvious?

what you're doing outside this messageboard is not of my
business tho...

not to take issue with xlt policies AT ALL...

...but it is a shame that an mp3 recording from a limited
edition vinyl release that is no longer even available for
sale, and is not planned for release in any other format
(yet), is considered illegal filesharing.

i completely understand and agree with xlt policies
regarding this, it's the legal justification i think is
partly absurd. but p2p/filesharing ethics is a much bigger
discssion that probably doesn't belong here, so i will shut
up now.

p.s. Phobiazero, thanks for all your help with analord info.
big up.

p.p.s. as someone mentioned in another thread, it is
remarkable that analord tracks were'nt leaked earlier in
this day and age.

In fairness to this,

Do you think it was right to ban him? Links like those have
been posted for years (ie. Ultravisitor, squarewindow,
venus17) Both direct links and posts about who to download
them from.

This was never in the rules before (that i know of) and was
never a bannable offense. Isnt it harsh when you look at the
past and to consider he was banned without a warning? He
didnt even rip it. someone else did.

we all got warnings (through this thread) but he got a ban.
I dont know.

just curious about your opinion

what about the homemade dj sets that are occasionally
posted? it would be a shame to see those disallowed, i've
been introduced to some great unfamiliar tunes through those
mixes (courtesy of vlari and gack and others)...

True, it would be a shame if I couldn't post links to my
mixes* anymore, or click to other's mixes for that matter.

*on that note, I'll see if I can put some records together
soon for ya.

come on, it's pretty obvious you shouldn't link to mp3s - I
sometimes link to an mp3 I uploaded, to give a taster, and
it's a shame if I won't be able to do that anymore, but not
unreasonable.

don't be ridiculous people. is it that hard to see the
difference between posting music that is commercially
available and protected by copyright law, without the
artists consent, and posting your own bedroom noodling?

if you post your own music, i think it safe to say you have
the artist's consent. give phobiazero a bit more credit,
he's just doing his job.

i downloaded the mp3s too, but if this was my website i'd
have banned the lot of you. C.Y.A.

Whoever mentioned it wasn't talking about homemade original
music. They were talking about mix sets of other people's
stuff, which people make themselves or record.

which people though?

are we talking about amateur, unsigned artists, who have
consentially posted the recordings for free online (like net
label artists)?

certainly breezeblocks are fine, the bbc posts them for
free, so yeah.

if we're talking about ae - peel sessions, then obviously
no.

Well a mix of everything. Original stuff, commercial stuff,
copyrighted, uncopyrighted. Herein lies the controversy
although I can't see the comparison with this and links to
individual track rips.

oh, you mean dj sets of other people's music... right. as
far as i know, that's open to serious interpretation.

the safe/conservative response is "no."

but i doubt xlt would ever get in any hot water over it,
it's up to them.

however, in order to perform that music (like at a venue),
the venue is required to pay for a license from BMI/ASCAP, i
believe, which permits them to have bands play covers and
djs play other people's music.

i'm no expert on this subject, so if i'm way off, by all
means, correct me.

Some forums it doesnt matter. I understand what you are
saying but i am saying that we all got warnings and he got
banned. Its happened before in the past and no one has done
anything about it.

Now out of the blue after things like this have happened
before it is a bannable thing. Without warning? I don tknow
about that.

Then again its not my call. ;)

i appreciate the attempts to preserve the rights of those
who are marketing music, but i will regret the loss of
channels that provide access to unheard music. i don't use
filesharing software at all, but i have no qualms about
sharing music to help expose an artist, even without the
artist's approval...
