i have it damnit - no lies. fenix is about 5 mins and xmdsa is the longer side , 6-7 i think. fenix funkstarts with a very basic pattern - ie even interval hi hats snares etc , then the drop turns it into a breakbeat [hence the funk in the title] then we get some truely sickoid basslines that never seem to repeat themselves and go thrus ome ffucked up filters and ring mods or whatever , really evil sounding , the melodies are kinda floating above the tune , very drak , yet melodic , typical aphex really , and again are quite moving. the song doesnt really get stuck in a loop as it were for too long. quite a feat for an all analogue tune eh. a post drukqs analogue aphex meets ceephax maybe. it feels very fresh too, make of that what you will. the fakes were just that , this aint some shitty loop. |

it was worth it - purely to hear this shit! - i'm going to spark a spliff and put it on loop later... i can't say it is the "best" aphex ever or some glib statement like that , but it is truely up there. but it this way , if you put fenix funk on ICBYD/RDJ , it would be up there... |
